Guest guest
Dear Haribhaktas, I have been reading very informative discussions on vedadhikara for men and women. I have a question here. Do works like Vayustuti and Sumadvavijaya, traditinally recited by all madva MALES, can be recited by women? This question stems a personal incident. Recently, I was reciting Vayustuti along with its Kannada translation , at home and my wife was sitting infront of me during the parayana. One of the elders in my family objected to this saying Women are barred from even 'listening' to works like Vayustuti !!! It would be very helpful, if any of the informed members of VMS clarify this issue. Regards Sateesh Gururajachar

Many a time this question was raised in tatvaj~naana-sammeLana-s conducted by Akhila Bharata Madhva Mahamandala. Probably every time, difference of opinions also came forth. According to Sri Vidyamanya Theertha Swamiji and Sri Vishvesha Theertha Swamiji - since women have eligibility in pauruSheya Agama (authored texts) they can recite them. But .......... One point should be noticed here. japa-adhyayana are compulsory (svadharma) for men not for women. So even though there are some shortcomings men should perform them. If women wish to do the same they should be more cautious about the shaucha-achaara etc.. Regards PPSM > This question stems a personal incident.
