All the important & fasting dates (Attachment enclosed)

AN EXPLANATION OF WHY A FESTIVAL IS SOMETIMES OBSERVED EARLIER IN NORTH AMERICA THAN IN INDIA

Most of our festivals are observed on days in which certain thithi is prevalent during a specified interval at the place of observance. Thithis & nakshatras being a geocentric phenomenon, the ending moment of a thithi is calculated as such & is equally applicable to all parts of earth simultaneously. Although a thithi usually occurs on the same date in most parts of the earth, it is possible that the prevalence of a particular thithi at a specific part of the day may occur on an earlier date in North America or any other region than in India.

However, the moments of sunrise will differ for each place on earth depending on its latitude & longitude & therefore, the hours of duration of these phenomena will vary for each place.

For places like Chicago, IL using Central standard/daylightsavings time, we have to subtract 1 hour; for places using Mountain standard/daylightsavings time, subtract two hours; & for places using Pacific standard/daylightsavings time, subtract three hours in reference to New York, Eastern standard/daylightsavings time ending timings.

Thankyou for pointing out.

> > I notice that Aug 8th is listed as Ekadashi (Fasting), varamahalakshmi puje and > also as Dwadashi. I think something is wrong here. Of course smarthas do > celeberate varamahalakshmi puje on Ekadashi also..

Ekadashi beginning time is August 7th 10:03 am & ends at August 8th 7:51 am. Dwadashi ends at August 9th, 5:46 am.

Yes, we cannot celebrate Varamalakshmi puje on an ekadashi. I concentrated more towards Shraavana month 2nd Friday than the thithi. If Ekadashi falls on Friday, can mAdhwas celebrate Varamalakshmi puje on 15th August? Please verify.

> > Aug 9 is listed as Shravana Shukla Dashami.. It is probably Trayodashi..

yes, you are right. August 9th is Shravana Sanivara & it is Trayodashi & not Dasami.

> > Madva Jayanthi and Vijayadasahmi are on 3rd and 4th Oct respectively. Didn't > Srimad Acharya born on the day of Vijaya Dashami?

Sorry again. It should be 4th which is both Srimadhwa Jayanthi & Vijayadasami. Please note the change.

> > Do Madhvas celebeate Maragshira Bahula as Hanuman Jyanthi? Where is the Hanumad > Vratha we recently celeberated less than 2 weeks ago?

No, according to Uttaradhi mutta calender as well as New York calender, Hanuman Jayanthi. It is today, 2nd January & I do not think it was 2 weeks ago.

Hanumana mathave hariya mathavu, hariya mathave hanumana mathavu
