Guest guest Posted May 9, 2003 Report Share Posted May 9, 2003 Dear Hari Bhakthas, Here is the update on the Mettilotsava in Sri Venkateshwara Temple in Pittsburgh and the VMS Conference in the nearby (within a few miles of the Temple) Murrysville Community Center during May 24-26 (Memorial Day weekend). If you are planning to participate, please reserve hotel accommodation without delay since hotels in Monroeville area will become scarce due to the long weekend. Please see below in this thread for the list of the hotels in Monroeville area. As far as we know, we expect participation and enthusiasm level to be about the same as last year. However, Michigan group is expected to be double the size of their last year group! They are also going to present their much acclaimed play on Sri Purandara Dasaru in Kannada in the VMS Conference this year. This play has won much appreciation for the professional quality, melodious singing, depiction of Dasaru and others with devotion. Please note that this play is by the adults in the Michigan group. Here is the program at present. Final program will be announced later. Saturday, May 24 Arrive in Pittsburgh area and settle down in hotel rooms. 6 pm Swarna Ratha Uthsava in the Temple (as in last year), we participate, sing songs 7:30 pm Dasa Sahithya Concert in the Concert Hall in the Temple by the well known senior artist Sri R. K Srikantan, Karnataka (as part of Sri Purandara Dasara Aradhane in the Temple, in the morning there are group and individual singing in the Temple). Dinner in the Temple Cafetaria on your own. Sunday, May 25 7:00 - 7:30 am, Drive to the assembly area in the foot-hills, drop off family in the assembly area, follow directions for car parking in the Temple area (probably both in the Temple dedicated parking lot in the foot-hills as well as the parking lots in the pushkarani area and top of the hills) and assemble at the foot-hills (same place as last year, however no shuttle buses this year). 7:30 am, Ghosti recitation of Praata Sankalpa Gadhya, Mangalaashtaka 7:30 - 10:30 am, Mettilotsava, conclusion at the Sesha vahana procession of the Lord at the top of the holy hills. Breakfast/lunch in Temple Cafetaria after Mettilotsava are on your own. 1:00 - I:30 pm, Assemble in Murrysville Community Center. See below for driving directions. 2:00-4 pm Philosophy session, lectures by Sri Gopal Madhusudahanrao, Sri Kesavarao Tadipatri, Sri Nagarag Kotekal, Sri Jaikrishna Nelamangala (topics of these lectures will be announced later). After Trafford road (McDonals on the left), right into Carson road (Dunkin Donuts on the left), The Murrysville Community Center is on the left after the ball park. This is the official function of the Temple. This is the 2nd year this function is held in this Temple.
