Guest guest
Greetings, You are welcome to participate in a National Forum for preservation, conservation and Digitization of Manuscripts of India located in India and abroad. On Feb 7th 2003, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Honorable Prime Minister of India launched the National Mission for Manuscripts As most of you are already aware that India has a largest collection of manuscripts in the world. Composed in different Indian languages and scripts, they cover religion, philosophy, systems of science, arts and literature. Preserved in materials such as birch bark, palm leaf, cloth, wood, stone and paper, they are spread all over the country and abroad in libraries, academic institutions, museums, temples, monasteries and with individuals. Some of this wealth has disappeared, while a large portion is in a state of damage and decay. India’s manuscripts wealth has to be preserved and redeemed. Mahabharata Samshodhana Pratisthanam (MSP) with its Centre for Digital Manuscripts located in Bangalore is contributing in a big way to the National Mission for Manuscripts since its inception. It had played considerable role in pushing the set up of such a mission by the Govt. of India way back in 2001. It is a great honor for MSP for having recognized at the National level. The National Mission for Manuscripts has made us as a partner in its journey towards achieving the set goals and objectives. The Centre for Digital Manuscripts is a focused research centre on various aspects of Manuscripts Digitization, preservation and dissemination. A tool called Vyasa – Digital Manuscripts Studio is under development and is planned to be released this year. Vyasa is a set of s/w tools that has brought honor and recognition to the organization at the National Level. MSP has launched a National Forum called National Mission for Manuscripts Forum, shortly, “Namami forum” with the main objective of assisting the Mission to achieve its goals. This forum invites active professionals from various forms of learning to help the Mission. So if you are any one of the following and want to contribute meaningfully for a National Cause please join the forum by clicking on the link below. It is imperative that a necessity to establish a Digital Library of Manuscripts that are located in Madhva Mutts, Institutions, private collections etc., are need of hour for all Madhvas and to leverage our contacts and influence with the Govt. of India in general and National Mission in particular. We need more volunteers to locate and also actively participate in digitization, cataloging, conservation and anti-fumigation of the manuscripts, Most importantly, convincing people on why they should contribute the manuscripts to the Mission, talking skills, selling the Digitization methodology are key aspects, we need to also get trained when we talk to people as most of the people feel that it is being done for some monetary benefits. We also need volunteers from US/Europe especially in London, Germany etc., to get in touch with Universities and Libraries to collect information on Indian Manuscripts, old books etc., this magnanimous project will definitely benefit all Madhvas World-wide to preserve the cultural heritage of the works of our ancestors. So don’t think too much, commit something and start going you will see things falling in place automatically. Welcome aboard!!! Click to to namami_forum Search - Find what you’re looking for faster.
