Vishnu Panchaka

Hello,

 

I am Lakshmi from Bangalore. I would like to know what Vishnu

Panchaka is. What is its importance? Are there any austerities to be

followed on that day? Vishnu Panchaka upavasa is on 15th June. Could

you pls let me know what exactly it is!!!

It is a vrata undertaken by Vaishnava-s by fasting 5 days

in a lunar month for atleast one year.

 

This vrata is explained in Vishnu Rahasya and other purANa-s

like Bhavishya[?].

When observed with correct understanding it will wipe

out [certain great]sins.

 

Shri Prabhanjanacharya quotes Bhavishya PurANa in

this regard.

Of course!

 

Vishnu Rahasya gives do-s and don't-s. There are rules

for doing UdyApana/tarpaNa/tIrtha/gandha. Once started,

it has to be continued -- if illness stops it, then one's

spouce or son/sishya can continue. In general, 'upadesha'

/guidance has to be taken to recite any mantra or to

observe any such vrata.
