It was a very divine experience to be in the august presence of Sri 108 Sri Sugunendra thirtharu observing Chaturmasya in the Los Angeles area, sannidhi of Sri Vittala Devaru and the samsthana deities of Sri Madhwacharya moola samsthana Sri Upendra thirthara Sri Puttige Mata, Udupi. We left on Friday evening from SF Bay area and reached in the early hours of Saturday morning. We reached the premises of Sri Krishna Brindavan around 9.30AM and after snana, sandhya we started the day with Bhajane karyakrama in the morning. Later witnessed the grand samsthana pooja by Srigalu assisted by Sri Ramdas Adiga and enjoyed the delicious thirtha prasada prepared by Sri Kodancha (vrathada adige). The evening activities started with a grand Harikatha by Sri Vidwan Vadishachar on the topic " Sri Rukmini vivaha " , in the auspicious presence of Sri 108 Sri Sugunendra thirtharu. Sri Vadishachar delivered with his unique style of rendering appropriate devaranamas in perfect context to the main topic. His narration led to the song " ubba beda ubba beda " and quoted the arrogance & ahankara showed by Rukmi the brother of Sri Rukmini towards getting his sister married to Lord Krishna. The harikatha kept the audience spell bound with his melodious singing with thalas in both hands, expressing emotions with tears occassionly, and with lagu hasya. At the conclusion of Harikatha Sri Swamiji blessed Sri Vadishachar with a garland. The Evening Tottilu pooja started with the melodious singing of Sri Vadishachar and the chanting of Sri Sukta, Sri Venkatesha stotra, Sri Krishna stotra. Srigalu performed the totiilu pooja to Lord Krihna and in his pravachana narrated the chaturmasya krayakrama. Sri Swamiji also announced the pratishtana of the utsava moorthys on August 22nd. Srigalu annonced that Sri Udupi Krishna will be coming to Los Angeles and also the mruthika brindavana of Gurusarvabhoumaru - Shri Raghavendra Swamigalu (similer to NJ temple). He also announced 12 main programs during the chaturmasya period. The evening program concluded with the prasada prepared by Sri Kodancha. We had a unique experience on Sunday of tapta mudradarane - being so far away from our Karma bhoomi. The morning activities started with Sri Sudarshana homa by Sri Vadisha char in the prescence of Srigalavaru. We did sankalpa and had 'Panchagavya'. Sri Vadishchar explained the details of the homa being performed and the homa lasted for about 2.5 hrs. The most significant goal of our yatra was to have mudradarane by Srigalu in this auspicious Adika shravana masa period was fulfilled at the conclusion of the homa. Srigalu explained the significance of the pancha mudradarana - a must for all the Vishnubhaktas. The big gathering of about 30-40 people were offered Mudradarane by Srigalavaru. After the conclusion of the mudradarana Srigalavaru delivered a short pravachana. We all understood the context of the previous day's Harikatha topic. Srigalavaru will be undertaking the translation of Sri Bhavisameera Sri 108 Sri Vadiraja Swamigala sanskrit work of " Sri Rukmeesha Vijaya' to Kannada. Sri Swamiji delivered a very short discourse on the significance of this mahakavya. Srigalavaru started with the unique style of Sri Kalidasa well known for his 'upamegalu' and the works of Sri Bhana Bhatta for the meanings. Srigalavaru concluded that the work of Sri gurusarvabhouma Sri 108 Sri Vadirajaru was decalred by all pandits as the one that surpasses the works of all these great writers. This short discourse narrated the significance of the kavya by Sri Swamiji and I am not doing jusice in this report to capture his great short pravachana. We witnessed the grandeur samasthana pooja and had thirtha prasada. We headed back in the evening after getting the blessings of Srigalavaru.
