namaskAra,

I was reading some books on Madhva Philosophy by Sri Nari and Dr. BKN Sharma recently and I am aware of the extent of Sri. Madhvacharya delves into pure logic and mathematics. I especially appreciate the Number theory he proposes and always believed that the amount of mathematical and computational theories that Sri Madhvacharya, Sri Vayasathirtha and Sri Jayathirtha have propounded is too great and may still be undiscovered or un-researched. I believe that all the mathematical theories that he had proposed does not clearly fit into Greek-Roman way of mathematics that we all know today. Maybe they are close and in-sync with Vedic Mathematics.

I received a mail today (a presentation on why “Mera Bharath Mahan”) and found the following statements, which took me by complete surprise.

Madhavacharya discovered Taylor series of Sine and Cosine function about 250 years before Taylor.

Madhavacharya discovered Newton Power series.

Madhavacharya discovered Gregory Leibnitz series for the Inverse Tangent about 280 years before Gregory.

Madhavacharya discovered Leibnitz power series for pi about 300 years before Leibnitz.

Though I cannot claim it has come from a reliable source, but as an engineer and lover of mathematics, I am somehow forced to believe that this maybe true since the basis of Dvaita philosophy has a very solid logical foundations.

I request the learned members of this forum to kindly direct me to resources which discuss more on logical and mathematical aspects as propounded by Sri Madhavacharya and any latter commentators if there are any. Are some institutes or scholars working in this direction as of today?

Did you notice it is 'Madhavacharya' and not Madhvacharya?

Madhavacharya was Sayana's (Advaiti and author of 'Sarva-darshana-

sangraha) brother.

I don't think Sri Madhvacharya was into Taylor series etc.

Hare Sreenivasa

1. Sri Madhvacharya predates " Madhavacharya "

2. Madhavacharya is also in our parampara but is

different from the one being spoken about.

3. The Madhavacharya here IS Sayana. He is also known

as Vidyaranya and was defeated by Sri Aksobya

Tirthatru on 'tat tvam asi'. He was the head of the

Srigeri Math

Can you pls tell the text in which Srimad Acharya or other saints

write or use the Number theory?

A request here: Is there a way to know the texts in which the above

person has demonstrated any of the above? From the surface of it, it

appears to be one of those junk mails.

Krishna

Sorry for the delayed reply. The confusion stemmed out in me because Sri Madhvacharya's photographs was attached to the bulleted list as I had mentioned in my earlier hence I wanted to clarify with the learned members if such a report was valid or not. I sincerely apologize for not having verified its authenticity before sending it to the group. (I will send the ppt as a separate link)

It appears to me that the conclusion of it being “Madhavacharya” and not "Madhvacharya" is true, since I found the very same texts in the following website (Non-Duality)

http://www.nonduality.com/hl1408.htm

I am not sure about the authenticity of this website itself.
