Guest guest
Dear Bhakta's, Here is a forwarded message from my friend in India:- Interested persons can contact the below mentioned address for any further details. A unique institution has been imparting education in Dvaita Dharma and tradition to a few students through the Gurukula system in Hunli, Karnataka. Started by the Mahacharya Trust, the Mahacharya Vidyalaya selects students over nine years of age to undergo the 12-year course in ``Sahitya, Vyakarana, Tarka and Vedanta''. The vidyalaya, headed by Pandit Pradyumnacharya Joshi, has just completed about three year of its existence. Twenty students are being given education there now. Two students, who were under the tutelage of Pandit Joshi even before the vidyalaya started, are now in the last phase of their training, studying Vedanta. The institution was opened last year when the pontiff of Uttaradimath, Satyatma Teertha Swamiji, declared open the new building and consecrated the Venkateshwara Temple there. The vidyalaya is the brain child of Pandit Joshi, who has received education from ``Satyadhyana Gurukula'' founded by late Mahuli Gopalacharya. Pandit Vidyasimhacharya now heads that institution, which is said to be the ``cradle'' for training in Dwaita philosophy. Pandit Joshi wanted to develop an institution on similar lines. It took nearly eight years for him after returning from the ``gurukula'' to start the vidyalaya. He started training two students in his house. This effort later blossomed into the vidyalaya. The Uttaradi Math Swamiji gave an initial donation of Rs. 5,000 to start it. After that, help started pouring in. This enabled Pandit Joshi to acquire a site, construct a building and the temple. These have developed into centres of spiritual activities. Pandit Joshi said that such institutions were needed now considering the trials and tribulations people were undergoing due to the modern way of life. They wanted spiritual solace, and the students trained in the vidyalaya could provide that. He said that education was given to them free of cost. Their parents left them to the charge of the vidyalaya for 12 years. Discipline and self-reliance were inculcated in them. Pandit Joshi is adept in giving discourses. He has created a record by giving discourses on the Bhagavata continuously for one year. Every evening, students in the vidyalaya are given discourses on the Mahabharata. On an ``ekadasi'' during the chaturmasya, Pandit Joshi lectured on the Bhagavata for 11 hours. He gives four to five discourses on some days at various places without affecting the rituals in the temple and the teaching schedules. Pandit Joshi plans to start a ``goshala'', a home for the aged, a ``dhyana mandira'' and a project for performing ``upanayanam'' and marriage free of cost for the poor.
