Guest guest
I have heard that both SriVaishnavas and Shaivaites have presence there since there is a Lakshmi Narasimha temple adjacent to the main BadariNarayan temple worshipped by SriVaishanavas and shrines dedicated to Ramanuja. I know that Pejavar Srigalu has established a Matha in another Svayam Vyaktha Kshetra ie; Saligramam near Gandaki river in Nepal. Maybe if some of our Madhva leaders take initiative and with support from all of us, we could establish a Matha there also. Aside from all this, this place Badarinath i have been told is very sacred not only beause of Lord Vishnu's presence there as Svayambhu, but many many Theerthas and spots where numerous incidents from Mahabharatha have taken place. For eg: Pandukeswar where the Pandavas are believed to have been born. Goddess Mahalaxmi is believed to have assumed the form of Badari tree to provide the Lord shelter to face the onslaught of the weather conditions, therefore the name Badri Narayan. Mahalakshmi has a sanctum in the prakara. It is believed that Lord Vishnu revealed to Narada Rishi that Nara & Naryana forms were his own. It is also believed that Narada Rishi, who also did his penance here, is even now worshipping the supreme God with Ashtakshara mantras. The image of Badarinarayana here is fashioned out of a Saligrama shile. Badarinarayana is seen under the badari tree, flanked by Kubera and Garuda, Narada, Narayana and Nara. Regards Raghu --- " M.S. Guest guest
I have heard a different version though. Brahma Devaru himself installed the idol at the end of the Dvapara Yuga upon instructions from the Lord Himself. It was the Lord's wish also that He be worshipped by Nara's( humans) during six months and Devatas in the other six months, hence Nara-Narayana. It has of course been mentioned as one of the eight Svayam Vyaktha Kshetra's in many places including Uttaradhi Matha website. Regards Raghu --- " M.S.
