Guest guest
Haridasa Sahitya Vishaya Vaividhya As already made known, the Kannada and Culture Directorate of the Karnataka Government has published 50 volumes of " Samagra Dasa Sahithya " . It contains around 16000 keerthanas composed by 140 Haridasas. The printed set is available for Rs. 2400/- and the CD for Rs. 1800/- Beisde this all the keerthanas text and also about 500 songs are held in the website http://www.dasasahithya.org. It is now easier to know what songs a paticular Haridasa has composed. But what are the themes and subjects that these songs depict? Many a time we would be interested in a particular theme, say, Dashavatara and loate the relevant songs. As it is it is simply not possible. As a senior Executive Editor of the " Samagra Dasa Sahithya " I have planned to undertake this work. The idea is like this: a) Find out the subject of each of these 16,000 poems and write it out, along with the first line of the Keerthanas. Also b) The name of the composer, and c) the volume number contining the song: First Line -------------- Haridasa ------------ Subject 1 ------------ Subjet H ----- Vol No. A program is chalked out by which the specific subject is first given. And then all the songs on the subject are retrieved Here is its specimen: Bala Krishna Angajanaiyanu Gokula Poguva Vyasarayaru 1 Angaladolagaadabaaradayya Bhimeshakrishna 19 Mahalakshmi Anganaakula Shiromani Pranesha Vithala 17 Anjore Hige Anjore Rameyarasa 7 But to find out the subject matter one has to go through each song; a herculean task indeed. One Smt Shyamala CR is asssting me. They have already commenced the work completing about 20% songs. The rest is set to finish by this year end. After duly editing, the result i.e the 'Haridasa Sahitya Vishya Darshana' (HaSaaViDa) will be published in 3 volumes (each about 500 pages). A word about the themes. They are broadly classified as: a) Shri Hari b) Gods and Goddesses c) Mythological characters d) 'Tirtha Kshethras' e) Philosophical ideas f) Atmanivedane g) Loka niti h) Guru Namana i) Mata Dharama (Mainly dvaita and its religious rites) j) Worldly affairs and k) Poetic elements It will be helpful for studies at any level dealing with Dasa Sahithya. It is thus avaluable source book and a lasting one. Although the work is half way through, people intersted in knowing what songs are composed on a specific topic or theme can contact me at shrihavanoor.
