Guest guest
Short Sketch on Madanur Sri Vishnu Tîrtha Birth of Sri Vishnu Tîrtha Sri Madanur Vishnu tirtha appeared in Bhuloka in the Hindu year: Ishvara nama Samvatsara, Shravana Masa, and the day Gokula-Ashtami, in a village called Siddapura, which comes in the Dharward District, Karnataka State in 1757. He was born to the holy couple Sri MathiBhagirathi and Sri Balachar, by the divine grace (Anugraha) of Sri JayaTirtha. So naturally the parents named him as “Jayatirtha.” Incidentally on this same day in Dvapara Yuga, Lord Sri Krishna had appeared for the betterment of mankind and the world and also deliverance of spiritual people. As usual in all orthodox Brahmin families, the young boy Jayatirtha had his Chowla, Aksharabhaysa etc ceremonies at the prescribed time and his BrahmoUpadesha at the age of 8. In this way Holy Gayatri Mantra was initiated in him and with effect of Gayatri Japa, a divine Tejas (glow) and radiance was always observed in him. He also demonstrated Brahminical virtues. In this way he started his serious studies in Sanskrit language and Shastras under the guidance of his father. Sri Vishnu Tîrtha pursued his advanced spiritual studies under the tutelage of Sri I.G. VenkataRamanachar in holy precincts of Mantralayam. In a short span the entire Shastra Adhyanyana, , all branches of Philosophy, Sanskrit Grammar and Literature was mastered and accomplished by him. His guru Sri I.G. VenkataRamanachar was extremely pleased with the boy’s radiance, his perseverance and reverence towards mastery of subjects and divine interest. He conferred his utmost benedictions on the boy and also blessed him that: “Let all the divine knowledge by grace of Sri VedaVyasa and Sriman Madhwacharya be bestowed upon you.” Events Once while Jayatirtha was sitting in his house over a cot, a Dasaru who was passing by chanting the kirtanas of Sri Purandharadasaru looked upon and said the following from the kirtana: “ Mancha Baradu, Madadi Baralu, Kanchi Kanrvali Baradu, Sanchitathi Matte Baradu Munche Maditha Dharmayya. “ - Cot, wife and children, Mirror and other accessory show items, monetary earnings and material pleasures will not come with YOU; first you follow Dharma only that will come. Hearing these words from the dasa brought a profound transformation in Jayatirtha’s life. In a zest for higher spiritual bhakthi, Jayatirtha immediately renounced Samasaric activities. He passed on his Samsara duties on to his Son and accepted the 3rd order of Ashrama which is the Vanprastha-ashrama and he became Avadhuta. In the year 1796, Shri Satyavara Teertharu (disciple of Sri Satyasandha Teertharu) ordained him into the sanyâsa order by the name of Sri Vishnu Tirtha. Sri Vishnu Tirtha is a Rudra Amsha. During his tenure he profoundly completed the entire “Sri Nyaya Sudha Mangala” 108 times, a feat which is undoubtedly difficult to achieve by normal humans. Major Works: Sri Vishnu Tirtha major works include: 1. Sriman Nyaya Sudha Tippanni. 4. Srinivas Kalyana 2. Bhagvata Sarodharra. 3. Adhyathama Rasa Rangini Sri SukhaAcharya (amsha of Lord Rudra) did the “Bhagvata” upadesha to Sri Parikshit Maharaja for the last 7 days of his period, after which due to a curse given to Sri Parikshit Maharaja by Sringi, he was bitten by snake to mark his end in earth. In the same way Sri Vishnu Tirtha being Rudra Amsha himself, for the spiritual betterment of mankind composed the magnum opus “Bhagvata Sarodharra” in exact 7 days. It comprises of 365 slokas and will bestow the same Phala effect as with Bhagvata. Sri Vishnu Tirtha blessed his foremost disciple Sri Gokamiananthachar with Upadesha and Agnya Patra’s. It also contains a famous guide to performing daily prescribed routine for each “Ghalige “(time as denoted by Vedas) like Sandhyavandane ,Vedaparayana, Devara Pooja, japa, bhojana , reading great works , till the Ghalige for night sleep. Such precision and accuracy of relating daily activites to the exact Ghalige’s indeed serves as a beautiful spiritual guide. Activities just performed in the prescribed Ghalige will bestow great punya among followers and also activity performed will hold great effect. Brindavana of Sri Vishnu Tirtha He cast off his mortal body in the year 1806. His Moola Brndâvana is at Madanur, he continues to meditate, and to bless devotees with true knowledge. The First Mrittika Brindavan comes to Bangalore. There are no Mrittika Brindavana’s of Sri Vishnu Tirtha anywhere. But as an Anugaraha to his foremost disciple Sri Gokamiananthachar, Sri Vishnu Tirtha appeared in his disciples dream (Svapna) and to the astonishment of his disciple handed over to him a marvelous Mrittika Brindavana. The peculiarity of this Mrittika Brindavana is that the topmost portion of it, has Sri Adi-Sesha (with hoods) embellished in. This brindavan has not been carved by any man. It has been directly given to Sri Gokamiananthachar by Sri Vishnu Tirtha himself in the latter’s dream. A Humble Request to the Devotees. The Purvashrama Descendants of Sri Vishnu Tirtha and Sri Gokamiananthachar have brought the Mrittika Brindavana’s of Sri Vishnu Tirtha to Bangalore and have visioned to establish Sri Vishnu Tirtha Mutt, alongside the Mrittika Brindavana of Sri Raghavendra Swamigalu. For this Mutt 10,000 Sq feet is needed which will cost about Rs 25 Lakhs. For the convenience of the devotees location in Bangalore has been confirmed by his Anugaraha. In the Puranas great people have achieved immense anugraha of Paramatma, Balichakravthy’s donation of 3 steps of land to Bhagvath Vamana Rupi Bhagavan, Karna’s donation of Kavacha to Indra, SibiChakravarthy’s dhana of his bodily matter, Jimithavahan’s donation of his Deha (even the skeleton) to Dadichi Rishi are just magnanimous, insurmountable and great acts of Dhana which Paramatma has shown as an example to all of us. Just as the clouds have always donated the mother earth with rain water, although being situated in the higher plane. In the same way contributors / donators are always situated in the higher plane. God has given us wealth and an opportunity to contribute for this event. Let all devotees utilize this privilege bestowed upon by SRI HARI.
