Two new books on mAdhva philosophy and religion by Dr. Balaji Hebbar

Dear Krishna bhaktas,

There are two new books by Dr. Balaji Hebbar who teaches Indian

Philosophy at universities in the Washington DC area. These are

welcome additions to library of any serious student of philosophy and

religion.

 

First book is called " Sri KrishNa Temple at Udupi: The Historical

and Spiritual Center of the Madhvite Sect of Hinduism " . This book

talks about the history, traditions of the KrishNa temple in Udupi. It

includes biographical details of Sri MadhvAchArya and Sri VadirAja

Theertharu. Book describes in great detail, structure and layout of

the Udupi Temple, daily rituals at the temple, details of the paryAya

festival, details of religious places of interest to mAdhAvas near

Udupi. The book is written in formal academic style with plenty of

foot notes and references. The book contains historical lineage of

all the AshTamaThas of Udupi as well as other mAdhva mATHas. Book

contains rare photographs of udupi swamijis and festivals in Udupi.

The book is highly recommended for all people who want to know about

KrishNa Temple and all its activities in detail. The book is very

well finished with a beautiful cover picture of sri madhAvacharya

holding Sri KrishNa idol.

 

 

Second book is called " VishishTAdvaita and Dvaita " . This contains

comparison of main philosophical principles of these two systems. The

book begins with life histories of sri ramAnuja and sri madhva and

goes onto comparisons of Epistemology, Ontology, Theology, Cosmology,

Psychology and Soteriology of the systems. In addition number of

additional items like differences in guNAguNisambamdha,

jagadbrahmopadAnakAraNavAda, dharmabhUtajnanavAda,

muktAnanadatAratamyavAda are covered. This book is also an welcome

addition to the bookshelf of serious student of mAdhva philosophy.
