Thithis are calculated based on the movement of sun and moon. . This is true for nakshatras, yogas and karanas also. Therefore, the time difference between India and your area does not apply to the commencement / end times of thithis. Or in simple terms the thithis are at the same times as in India. The calculation method is same for everybody (all siddhanthas). For sankalpa, the thithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and the Vaara ruling one and a half hours before sunrise has to be used. As per Madhva matha sampradaya & Indian coordinates, Sri Narasimha Rao has prepared panchanga in English & uploaded in the website http://www.geocities.com/panchangaminenglish/index.htm for VYAYA NAMA SAMVATSARA between March 30th, 2006 to March 19, 2007. If you are interested to know the Fundamentals of Panchanga, basic Astrology, Sri Narasimha Rao has uploaded in English at http://www.geocities.com/panchangaminenglish/BoPanchanga2edition.pdf S. One can also download heroscope of a person free of cost in this website http://www.leoastro.com/ Sri Ganesha temple at Flushing, NY, Sri Venkateswara temple at Bridgewater calenders & http://www.leoastro.com/ has differences in ending timings within 0-5 minutes. The Hindu Temple Society of North America, NY has published calender for the year 2006 calender based on NY, EST/EDT coordinates ending time of thithis. Hindu Temple & Cultural society of USA, Inc., Sri Venkateswara Temple (Balaji Mandir) & Community Center has published calender for the year 2006 based on NJ, EST/EDT coordinates ending time of thithis. This calender was prepared based on NY coordinates for NJ Venkateswara temple, Bridgewater, NJ by Sri Neti Sivarama Krishna Sastry of Sydney, Australia. This calender was prepared based on NY coordinates for NY Ganesha temple, Flushing by Sri R. Kumar of Vontikoppal Panchanga karta, Mysore, India who has studied jyothishastras. *****ABOUT THE CALENDER****** ****Most of our festivals are observed on days in which certain thithi is prevalent during a specified interval at the place of observance. THITHIS & NAKSHATRAS being a GEOCENTRIC phenomenon, the ending moment of a thithi is calculated as such & is equally applicable to all parts of earth simultaneously. Although a thithi usually occurs on the same date in most parts of the earth, it is possible that the prevalence of a particular thithi at a specific part of the day may occur on an earlier date in North America or any other region than in India. However, the moments of sunrise will differ for each place on earth depending on its latitude & longitude & therefore, the hours of duration of these phenomena will vary for each place. **** The moment of sun's entry into a rasi (zodiac sign) determines the commencing day of a solar month as follows: b) The same day, if the moment of sun's entry into a rasi occurs during daytime a) The following day, if it occurs during nighttime. Duration of Raahu kaalam is determined as follows: The interval between moments of sunrise & sunset at NY for a given day, is divided into eight equal parts. The first part is ignored & each one of the remaining seven parts is observed as Raahu kalam, depending on the day of the week as below: Monday: 1st of 7; Saturday- 2nd of 7, Friday: 3rd of 7; Wednesday- 4th of 7; Thursday: 5th of 7, Tuesday: 6th of 7 & Sunday : 7th of 7th. For places like Chicago, IL using Central standard/daylightsavings time, we have to subtract 1 hour; for places using Mountain standard/daylightsavings time, subtract two hours; & for places using Pacific standard/daylightsavings time, subtract three hours in reference to New York, Eastern standard/daylightsavings time ending timings. mAdhwa calender Description http://www.dvaita.org/misc/calendar/intro.html BASICS & USE OF PANCHANGA Thithiyeshcha Shreeyamapnothi vArAth Ayushyavardhanam nakshathraath harathepApam yogAth Roganivaranam karanAth karyasiddhishchaath panchangam dashamephalam Knowledge of Thithi bestows wealth, knowledge of vAra increases longevity, knowledge of nakshatra erases sins, knowledge of yoga cures diseases & knowledge of karana ensures success in work. All instances of time have five characteristics viz. Vaara, Thithi, Nakshatra, Yoga & Karana. These five characteristics are detailed for all the days of the year in an almanac which is called Panchanga (Pancha + Anga). These characteristics are derived from the positions of Sun & Moon. Panchangam is used for knowing these five basic characteristics of time for Sankalpa, locating dates of vratas, locating dates of shraddhas & for finding suitable dates for auspicious functions. Positions Sun, Moon & other planets are also given in the panchanga. Panchanga considers 7 planets & 2 shadowy planets. They are: PLANETS/SHADOWY PLANETS---------------------ANTARYAMI ROOPA Surya or Ravi- Sun ------------------------Rama Soma or Chandra- Moon ------------------Krishna Kuja or Mangala- Mars-------------------Narasimha Budha or Soumya- Mercury--------------Bouddha Guru or Brihaspati- Jupiter-----------------Vamana Shukra or Bhargava- Venus ----------------Parashuraama Shani or Manda- Saturn------------------Kurma Shadowy planet Rahu or Thama- Dragon's head-----------Varaha Shadowy planet Kethu or Sikhi- Dragon's Tail---------------Mathsya IMPORTANT FASTING, ARADHANE & FESTIVALS DATES: *****VISHNU PANCHAKA VRATA FASTING DATES ARE WRITTEN IN CAPITALS.***** All timings are based on Eastern Standard/Daylight savings time, USA JANUARY Chandramana mAsa/Niyamaka- December 31st to January 28th- Pushya- Hemanta Rutu-Narayana Soura mAsa- December 22 to January 19- DhanurmAsa-Capricorn EKADASHI: 9th, 25th SRAVANA NAKSHATRA: 29th FULL MOON: 13th AMAVASYA: 29th Uttarayana Punyakala- January 14th Makara shankaranthi- 14th Sri Raghuttama Theertha Aradhane - It should be of such a quality & texture as would transcend all ownself or to his nearest & dearest ones in life, or to his most cherished possessions. It should be founded on an unshakable intellectual & emotional conviction in the Majesty of the Lord---as the embodiment of all spiritual excellences. SOURCE: NYAYA SUDHA OF JAYATIRTHAMUNI BY DR.
