It is the time for many to make a resolution or wish or samkalpa. Usually the goal is to attain material wealth / physical fitness. Our Gurus (SrimadAcharya & His followers) have given us the correct samkalpa to attain the highest goal, that is moksha. Sri Raghavendra Theertharu composed " Pratas-Sankalpa Gadyam " to help the devotees of Sri Hari to do saddhana with right anusandhAna/ understanding and attitude to attain the goal of moksha. In addition to the Source, I am referring few books for translation & also I am attempting to translate for the first time last few verses from a Tamil Pratah Sankalpa Gadya book for the benefit of devotees as my humble service to Sri Hari, Vayu, Gurugalu. It is essential for all persons who had Brahmopadesha/Mantropadesha chant Pratah Sankalpa Gadya every morning with proper & right anusandhAna & this Sankalpa should be learnt only through Guru. Every word in Pratah Sankalpa Gadya has lot of meanings & philosophical depth in it. This book & my other references, translation gives only the Gist & I hope some scholor would enlighten us with inner meanings of PSG by posting it to CMS or VMS lists. If I had missed anything here & also if you find errors , please correct the errors. In addition to Pratah Sankalpa Gadya/Sarva Samarpana gadya which would be about 12 postings, I would also like to post some five selected topics which we should know which will be another 5 postings. INTRODUCTION: " Praatas-Sankalpa-GadyaM " is a seemingly small work wherein the great Master of Scriptures Sri Raghavendra Theertha earnestly calls upon us to live up to the dignity & glory of our heritage. " Praatas Sankalpa Gadyam is a book of bhakthi . Every line of it is the essence of either Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavata or the sacred bhashyas of Sri Madhvacharya. Sri Raghavendra Theertharu, the great Aparoksha gnAni with super human powers, a divine personality who had completely conquered his indriyas & the mind unassumingly calls himself, in this work, an ordinary man (dInaM, dUnaM, anAthaM). Rising from the bed early in the morning, the first thought that comes to his mind is that of his UPASANA MOORTHY seated in his heart. Thus, he addresses Sita pati Sri Ramachandra & undertakes the sankalpa (a resolve) personally on his own behalf & in the process he also includes in it:- those willing to carry out his orders (madAGYAkAribhiH), those studying (his works) (vidyA saMbandhibhiH), those connected with him by birth (deha saMbandhibhiH). Addressing the Lord, the author proclaims " Oh Ramachandra, those men & women whom you call 'your people' (tvadIyaH) are alone entitled to come under any one of the above three groups. The sankalpa contents are impliedly meant for practice even by an ordinary family man. In short, the sankalpa is that from the moment one gets up early in the morning, he would carry out his day's work as though it is a pooja to the Lord. The Sankalpa further stipulates that subject to the available time & resources, he would perform the said work cum pooja with all his ability, with all his intellectual honesty & with all the grandeur possible. The sankalpa concludes with the bidding that the aspirant, would also influence his near & dear & kith & kin to perform the said work- Pooja. In the said manner with the faith that in the ultimate sense, it is the Lord who really does the whole work through us. For study purposes, it appears as though Sri Raghavendra Theertha has set apart this work to sing the glories exclusively of Sri Vayu Devaru, Sri Madhva & of Paramathma. He presents all the three in their proper perspective & in their midst the ordinary jeeva is shown its place & position in God's scheme of evolution. It is a common experience that the heart of any honest & intelligent student melts in love & reverence to his Guru from whom he had received good & useful knowledge. Such being the case in the lowest level, would it be possible at all for us to measure the depth of Guru Bhakthi of Sri Raghavendra who had attained all that was to be attained from his Adi-Guru & thereby became a " Sarva Tantra Swatantra " ? The work begins with a beautiful adoration to Sri Mukhya Prana & his Avatara as Sri Madhva is supremely worshipped. The latter half of the text speaks of the various manifestations (Roopas) of the Lord, together with Sri Vayu Devaru's seva to Him. In conclusion, all the Bhagavad Roopas are merged into the Holy figure of Sita Pati Sri Ramachandra the Upasana Moorthy of the author & the sankalpa is ceremoniously placed at His lotus feet.
