Guest guest
Namaskara The annual meeting of the Akhila Bharata Madhva Mahamandal set up by Sri Visvesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt, Udupi, was held at Dharmaprakash, Chennai on February 4, 5, 6. Many Swamijis and scholars and laymen spoke. Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puthige Mutt, Udupi, spoke of the greatness of Madhva philosophy and of his experiences in the United States. He said he was elected president of the World Council of Religions for Peace because he put forward to the Council Acharya Sri Madhva's tenets for a just world order. He also recollected his conversations with an American citizen who discussed with the Swamiji for about five hours the various aspects of Nyaya Sudha of Sri Jayathirtha. Sri Bindumadhav Kerur of Bangalore said religious institutions must start propagating Madhva philosophy in English and other languages. Though thousands visit RAghavendra Mutts all over the country, they are not fed the nectar of Madhva philosophy through pamphlets and books. They are just given theertha and prasada. This should end. Another scholar-cum-engineer spoke of the scientific aspect of religious practices. When applying gopichandana, we pour a little water in the middle of our palm and rub the gopi piece there. The middle of the palm is the kidney point in acupressure and the kidney gets cooled every morning when we apply gopichandana. This appears to be the personal opinion of the " scholar-cum-engineer " ; it is not known by medical science or stated in the Vedic shaastra. It is furthermore not clear why cooling the kidneys is a good thing. Also, if I am not mistaken mAdhva-women apply it in a different way. I feel there is absolutely no need to bring in science in these matters. Regards, Meera Tadipatri
