Few of you had sent email that http://www.geocities.com/panchangaminenglish/index.htm was not working. Just to inform you, now, one can see this website. This panchanga is calculated for Tanjore lattitude/longitudes (Tamil Nadu) & as per Madhwa matha calender based on Surya Siddhantha system.

Dear Krishnabhakthas,This is just to inform you that as per Srimad Acharya' s Sri Krishnaamrutha maharnava, we can come to the conclusion of 2 Ekadashi upavasa for Eastern & Central Daylight savings timings this Saturday & Sunday. As per NY Ganesha temple (Flushing) calender, NJ Bridgewater temple calender & Sri Puttige matha (Sri Krishna Brindavana), NJ calender, Dasami thithi ends tomorrow early morning, 1:07 am (just after midnight), & Ekadashi thithi ends on Sunday 3:40 am, Dwadashi ends on Monday 6:16 am. The Sunrise as per NY temple Panchangam & TV local news/Weather channel, the sunrise is 6:33 am & hence it is ok to have Dwadashi pArane on Sunday normally. As per http://www.leoastro.com/ panchanga, the Sunrise is 5:30 am. They did not take the daylight savings time into account.

Since we do not know the method of calculating Harivasara, it is best to fast (last part of Dashami & first part of Dwadashi) the maximum period of time of Harivasara which is 6 hours after Ekadashi ends. Which means Ramaa neivedhya should be done ONLY after 9:40 am on Sunday. As per Sri Puttige Matha, today is Dasami, tomorrow is Ekadashi & Sunday is Dwadashi.

As per Sadachara Vinodha by Sri Vyasanakare Prabhanchacharya book,

vRiddhau pravR^iddhasiddhAntamadhigamya munIshvarA |

daivaGYaiH nirNayaH kAryo dashamyAdidinatraye

Revered Munis ! Dashami, Ekadashi & Dwadashi have to be calculated using only the Aryamana mode of calculations.

Harivasara during Dashami & Dwadashi:

The last part of (Dashami viddha) Ekadashi & the first part of Dwadashi thithi is also known as Harivasara (Haridina). This period is also auspicious & merits fasting. If any food is taken during this period, it amounts to killing a brahmin (brahma hathya dosha) & other such sins (so if there is Harivasara on Dashami, food should be taken before Harivasara begins & if there is Harivasara on Dwadashi, the fast should be broken only after Harivasara is over.

However, this time, Dwadashi thithi is still present until Monday, 10th April 6:16 am. Though it maybe difficult for me or many others to fast for two days in a row, I still would just like to bring the facts from Srimad Acharya's kR^ishhNAmR^ita-mahArNava.

When Ekadashi is not touched by Dashami, even when there is small part (say a ghatika which is 24 minutes) of Dwadashi thithi on Tryodhashi also, the fast should be continued & not broken on the first Dwadashi; otherwise the merit of observing twelve Dwadashis (pArana) gets destroyed.

dwAdasha dvAdashIrhati dvAdashI chAtilaMghitA |

On the day of breaking the fast if there is very little Dwadashi thithi, it is called sAdhana Dwadashi. On such occasions, the fast should be broken when it is still Dwadashi. Otherwise the merit of observing twelve Dwadashis gets destroyed.

When there is very little Dwadashi thithi left on Dwadashi, one should start performing the daily rituals only after "mahanisheetha' has passed. The afternoon sandhya & other rituals (madhyanhika) should be performed before sunrise. This is the Lord's command.

Dividing the night into three parts, one should bath during the last one third part of the night during sAdhana dwadashi & start the dailly ablutions. The afternoon Sandhya should also be completed before Sunrise itself. One ghatika (24 minutes) before this ghatika is called prathah kaala. It is during this prathah kala that the afternoon sandhya should be completed. Completing Vaishnadeva homa, Brahma yajna & all tarpanas during suryodaya (i.e. during the 48 minutes before actual sunrise) one should wait anticipating sunrise with the aposhana in the right hand; and the moment the sun rises, one should start the meal. It will thus be possible to observe sAdhana Dwadashi. On days other than sAdhana Dwadashi, one should not have a bath before Arunodaya (96 minutes before sunrise). It is called sAdhana Dwadashi because one has to make all out efforts (sadhana) to observe Dwadashi. (This to refers those days wherein only a very small part of Dwadashi thithi is left--known as kalaamatra sadhani dwadashi).
