Dear Devotees, Happy Deepavali To You All !!! On this auspicious occasion of Deepaavali, I am very glad to inform you that His Holiness Shri Shri 1008 Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji is performing special poojas for Lord Shri Panduranga Vittala and has blessed all of us so that our wishes will be fulfilled. Significance of Deepavali :- This year's Deepavali celebration will be starting on 19th October. Deepavali means the Festival of Lights. Deepa means light, - AvaLi means group, thus meaning group of lights.

Light signifies Shri MahaLakshmi, Jnana, etc. Deepavali festival comes in the middle of Chaathurmaasya. In the Chathurmasya The Supreme Lord Shri NaaraayaNa will do Yoga-Nidra, appearing to sleep, misleading undeserving demonic souls. This is the period to do Sath-Karmas, Dharma, Vrata and austere penances for all Satwika Jivas. Chathur Maasa means the four months from, Aashaada Maasa Shuddha Ekadashi to Kaarthika Shuddha Dwaadashi. In this period NagaPanchami, Upaakarma, Shri

Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesha Chaturthi, Mahalaya, Navaraatri, Vijayadashami, Deepavali, and Tulasi Vivaha festivals will take place. Chaaturmaasya will end on the day of Utthana Dwaadashi, 2nd Nov. This mean Lord NaaraayaNa wakes up from Yoga-Nidra. Before Lord NaaraayaNa, Shri Lakshmi Devi will wake. The symbolic representation of this is the lighting of lamps, which is Deepavali. Lakshmi Devi is controller of triguNaas which covers us with Ajnana. Just as light eliminates darkness Lakshmi will eliminate all our ajnana, when we praying to Her along with NaaraayaNa. Therefore by lighting lamps we welcome Lakshmi Devi to remove our Ajnana and Bless us with health, wealth, and everything we need. On Thrayodashi (Thursday 19th Oct.) the first day of Deepavali night, we have to keep a lamp facing south outside the home. And we have to pray to Yama for eliminating Apamrutyu and all our pitrus to Bless us. And this day we must decorate the bathing room and pray to Ganga and other river Goddesses to be present in the waters for our next day's Pavitra Snaana. On Naraka Chaturdashi (Friday 20th, Oct.), we must awake early morning, do Namaskaaraa to all elders and seek Blessings. And everybody should do Thaila Abhyanga (oil bath). The oil bath signifies removal of sins and poverty. Then we have to do special poojas to our Dear Lord. This is the day Lord Shri Krishna vanquished Narakaasura and removed from bondage all his prisoners. So this is the special day to pray Lord Shri Krishna to remove all difficulties and save us from Hell. On the New Moon day ( 21st Oct.) in the night we have to keep lamps lit all around the house and pray to Shri Lakshmi Devi along with NaaraayaNa. Padya (22nd Oct.) is the day to do Lakshmi Pooja, GoPooja, and Bali Pooja. On this day Lord NaaraayaNa took Vaamana and Trivikrama Roopa and Blessed Bali Chakravarthi. And this day Ganga River took birth when Lord Trivikrama's foot hit BrhamaanDa Talpa, and the Goddess poured down (then Bhageerata did Tapas to bring Her to Earth). From Padya (22nd Oct.) to Utthana Dwaadashi (2nd, Nov.) we have to do daily Tulasi Pooja and pray to Keshava and the other 12 Roopas of the Lord for 12 days. On Utthana Dwaadashi we have to do Pooja to Tulasi with Kaartika

Daamodara. This is the wedding day of Tulasi and Kaartika Daamodara. By celebrating all these traditional festivals our lives will be meaningful and in accordance to our faith and devotion we will receive Blessings from the Lord and all our good wishes will be fulfilled. Please don't hasitate to contact us for any informaion. With Warm Regards, Always In the Seva Of Lord Shree Krishna, Yogeendra Bhat Shri Krishna Vrundavana 18 (and 26) S Main St Edison, NJ 08837 732-283-8982 / 732-549-6959 www.krishnavrunda.org
