Dr. Balaji Hebbar forwarded this note about a lecture by Dr. Deepak

Sarma in a American Academy of Religious studies conference in WashingtonDC on

November 18th. I have attached the link to the agenda of the conference which

is very impressive. I urge people especially the youngsters to attend the

conference and Dr. Sarma's presentations.

 

Dr. Deepak Sarma's brief biosketch is given below. It is gratifying to

note that a person born in the US has dedicated his life to the study of madhva

and Indian philosophy. We should encourage our children from high school and

above to attend this function.

 

For people from neighboring areas, November 19th also has Sri vidyabhushana

concert in Washington DC. They can attend both events during that weekend.

On Saturday November 18th 2006 at 1PM, the American Academy of

Religion's annual conference will be held in DC. There is a

presentation on the mAdhva pUjA style by Prof. Deepak Sarma. A short

film clip of the cAmarasevA-rangapUjA video-recorded during the

paryAya of the adamAr maTha [2004-2006] will also be shown as part

of the presentation.

 

He is chairing a panel discussion on Adhikara in Dharma Diaspora on Friday 17th

at 4 PM.

 

 

Dr.Sarma is a young man in his early 30s. He is an up and

coming academic-type scholar in the field of mAdhva studies in the

USA. He was born in the USA to tuLu-speaking shivaLLi mAdhva parents

and studied under Prof.Edwin Gerow [a famous Sanskrit professor in

the USA who has translated the vAdaratnAvaLI of viShNudAsAcArya].

Deepak also studied under Mm.Pt. Govindacharya Bannanje as well as

Mm.Pt. Prahaladacharya of pUrNaprajn~a vidyApITha. Deepak has already

published two books. One is on dvaita epistemology and the other on

brahmasUtra 1.1.1. Deepak is an honorary scholar of the vidyApITha.
