Guest guest
Srimadhvarajo Vijayate, I came across a song “Tirukanoorvanu Uramunde, Muruku Dharma Shaleyalli” in Kannada. Although it seemed to be a Janapada song or something else, i was surprised and happy to hear the Ankita “Adi Keshava” of Sri Kanaka Dasaru. One of the literary historians not belonging to Madhva tradition told me that it is a composition of “Muppina Shadakshari” belonging to Veerashaiva tradition. I referred even the textbook of higher primary standard where an extract of the poem (incomplete) has been given without any Ankitas. It also attributes the poem to “Muppina Shadakshari”. I have the audio version of the complete song with the Ankita “Adi Keshava”. The song was evidently used in the famous film “Bhakta Kanaka Dasa” of Dr. Rajkumar where the Ankita “Adi Keshava” is clearly audible. The movie, which is quite historical in theme, also depicts the song as being sung by the character of Sri Kanaka Dasaru. Further, the Theme-story of the song is on how a beggar became a king in dream and later disillusioned, realized the Anityatva (Not Mithyatva of the world!) of all worldly pleasures. Some of those who belong to the tradition of Haridasaru mentioned that the episode was a historical reference to the tradition of an elephant choosing a king by garlanding, which dates back and hints to the times of Sri Narahari Tirtha and his Royal position in Kalinga state with a similar scenario while bring the Pratima of Sri Moola Rama Devaru (though I admit that it may seem to be slightly far-fetched reference). Learned members please clarify if the song is authored by Sri Kanaka Dasaru or someone else. If it is a composition of Sri Kanaka Dasaru, kindly give references to books and others where it appears with the Ankita “Adi Keshava”, so that something could be done to correct the mistake in the textbooks, if any. The following are the last lines appearing in the song: “Merehuttida Bhagyavella Haridu Hoyithenndu Thiruka, Piriyuvudake Nachutidda Marulanandadi. Piriyutanadi Nalvekelu Arithu Adi Keshavanna, Harushadinda Bhajipe Nitya Sukhava neevanu.” Kindly excuse me if this is out of the subject-matter of the group’s discussion topics.
