Guest guest
Dear All The dhyana sloka in Tantra sara sangraha of Acharya Madhva is clear. The top two arms hold Surya and Chandra, the next two have Chakra and Shanka, the next two pots symbolising shankanidhi, padmanidhi, and another pair of hands with palms pointing downwards indicating varada hastha. Lord Srikara is seated on Garuda, the Lord's feet resting on Garuda's palms and Lakshmi seated on the Lord's left side. Lord Srikaranarayana is invoked during Brihati sahasra yaga and is the deity invoked while chanting Vishnu sahasranama. 1. You can see a photo on the cover page of Tamil Srisudha published by Utharadi Matha which is based on a painting drawn for SMSO Sabha's Brihati sahasra yaga in Tiruchanur in 2001. 2. You can also see a vigraha on Suguna Digest in an issue last year /kannada pocket version of Harikathmrutasara-cover page. The variations are the bottom two palms are joined (similar to when we give arhya) while in 1 they are separated and wide part. In some idols, in place of pots the idol may have conch indicating shanka nidhi (not the shanka, the weapon) and lotus indicating padma nidhi. 3. Vishnunidhi, a part of Srittatvanidhi of wodeyar published by Mysore oriental research inst also carries a painting of the same in print. 4. I have come across books by leading scholars published by certain other sects where they represent the Varadaraja form for Srikaranarayana by mistake. Varadaraja icon is similar but does not have Surya, chandra, the two nidhis adorning the Lord's arms. In general, the Varadaraja form has four arms (famous temple in Kanchipuram). Acharya Madhva's definition is very accurate unlike many other dhyana slokas by others which are rather vague. There is a dhyana sloka in Mantra sangraha of Maharaja Bhosle (Tukoji?) published by Sarasvati Mahal library, Thanjavur. 5. Chanting Srikara naryana mantra in addition to bestowing wealth also gives long life and health. In my personal experience,I have found it easier to visualise during japa than certain other popular forms of the Lord. This could be personal experience and I have felt gives enormous internal calmness after the japa. Needless to say the mantra requires upadesha. Hope the info is useful.
