Dear Haribhakthas, It gives us immense pleasure to share with you all that Bhavi Paryaaya Peetadhipathi Sri Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Sri Puttige Mutt has performed "BaaLe Muhoortha" celebration at Udupi in the early hours of Dec 11,2006. This celebration of "baaLe Muhoortha" is one of the preliminary rituals of Udupi Sri Krishna Paryaaya which will be celebrated a year before the actual paryaaya begins. Sri Sri Sugunendra Swamiji of Puttige Mutt will make one more historical event by ascending the "Paryaya peetha" of Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt for the third time on January 18, 2008. What is the significance of "BaaLe Muhoortha" ? During his term of paryaaya, Sri Swamiji will use untold amounts of TuLasi leaves for the daily services in Udupi Krishna Mutt and

plantain leaves for daily meals and for the many special feasts held during this period. To ensure this, about one year before the paryaaya, on an auspicious day, plantain and tuLasi groves are established. On the day of muhuurta the Mutt priests first pray to the nine planets. Then the MaTha workers carry tuLasi and plantain seedlings in procession to Krishna Mutt. On the way they are accompanied by the Krishna Mutt elephant and other paraphernalia. Prayers are first offered in the Chandreswara and Ananteshwara temples before the procession enters Krishna Mutt. Coins are offered to Sri Krishna and then prayers are offered so that there will be no shortage of tulasi leaves for pooja or plantain leaves for meals. After offering prayers to Sri Mukhya PraaNa (Hanuman) and Sri Madhvacharya, the workers then return their Mutt before going on to plant the seedlings. This time, on Dec 11,2006 , the "baaLe Muhoortha" function was

witnessed by lot of devotees and dignatories from and around Udupi and South Kanara district. On this occasion of baaLe Muhoortha Sri Swamiji told devotees that “Srikrishna’s Udupi should become bewitchingly beautiful " Sri Sri Sugunendratheertha Swamiji of Puthige Math, Udupi placed before the people of Udupi today his cherished wish to transform Udupi into a clean and beautiful town so that it may kindle the people’s devotion for Sri krishna. He was addressing the devotees after performing the auspicious Baale Muhurtha as a prelude to ascending the Paryaya throne for the third time on 18 January, 2008. The Swamiji shared his fond dream of “Beautiful Udupi, Krishna’s Udupi, ’’ with the numerous devotees who were present on the occasion of the Baale Muhurtha which marked the beginning of a chain of rituals leading to the Paryaya. The Sri Swamiji assured the devotees that he would try to obtain World Bank aid for beautifying

this temple-town. At the same time, he made it clear that his intention is to develop this town on the lines of Dwaraka and not like another Singapore or Hongkong. Sri Sugunendratheertha Swamiji who has caught the attention of the world by spreading the Madhwa Philosophy and Srikrishna’s message throughout the length and breadth of the world during his world tour confided to the devotees that he had established three Krishna temples in America and also that daily worship and Annadaanam is going on there. Stating that today’s ritual represented his sacred vow to undertake the Paryaya, he called upon the devotees to cooperate with him till the conclusion of the Paryaya and partake of Srikrishna’s grace. Although the ritual was held in the

early hours of the winter morning, devotees had participated in the ceremony in very large numbers. Speaking on their behalf, Sri K. K. Pai stated that the people of Udupi should be proud of the Swamiji who had propagated the Madhwa doctrine the world over. He took this opportunity to observe that customs and traditional beliefs always changed keeping pace with changing times and that change was a symbol of growth. He added that it is only natural for differences of opinion to crop up close on the heels of changes. Sri K. K. Pai assured the Swamiji of the sustained and whole-hearted cooperation of all the people during his Paryaya. Sri Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat appealed to the eight Maths of Udupi to give the go-by to the differences of opinion if any and to stand united. He too promised all support to the Sri Swamiji. The Sri Swamiji celebrated the Baale Muhurtha in a unique manner by distributing 108

plantain trees among the devotees who were present. The ritual was conducted under the guidance of the renowned priests, Vedamurthy Kukkikatte Sridhara Thantry and Kenja Sridhar Thantry. 1121 1123 1124 4798 4820 Putthige_Bale_Muhoor tha100 Putthige_Bale_Muhoor tha120 Putthige_Bale_Muhoor tha123 Link. http://www.hindu.com/2006/12/12/stories/2006121214680300.htm http://68.178.224.54/udayavani/showstory.asp?news=0 & contentid=379262 & lang=2 In the service of the Lord and His Holiness...
