Guest guest
Krishnabhaktas, One acquaintence of mine is looking for a Bhagavad Gita translation in English based on madhva tradition. I am aware of only Dr. BNK Sharma's work in this regard. I want to know if Dr. BNK Sharma's work available in print now and are there other madhva tradition's Gita translations in English available. Thanks for your help, Namaste, Vasu Murthy
Guest guest
Dear Vasu I am aware of 2 more publications that provide the correct (aka Madhva) interpretation of Bhagavad gIta in English. The first is a work by Sri Subba Rao; this is out of publication. The second is one by Prof Nadagouda. This is more likely to be available in Bangalore. With regards Sriprasad
Guest guest
Dear Vasu, namaste. As you are aware VMS has funded a project to republish the book on Bhagavat Gita by Late Sri C. M. Padmanabachar. A/c Shri Bindu Madhavan the book was supposed to be released on the aradhane of Shri 1008 Shri Raghottama theertharu at Tirukoilur yesterday. This book should available to about 31 donors from here shortly (to be sent by courier from India). I have pasted below a secion of the mail from Bindu that explains more about the book. Another book I am aware avaliable is the small book on Shrimad Bhagavadgita that is published by Suguna Samsath in the able guidance of Shri 1008 Shri Sugunendra theertha Shripadnagalavaru. This is the pocket book that was distributed during Shri Swamiji's first visit to all the " Gita Lekhana Yajna " devotees. It has short summary for all the shlokas in english. This is a book for beginners. I have some copies of the book. Regards, Satya ********************************************************************************\ ********** " Madhavan,G V. M. Padmanabachar. This book is a classic book in English published in the early last century and is held in high esteem for the shastric scholarship of the author (a leading attorney in the British times in India), the lucid style of the written English appealing to the modern times, presentation of each shloka in Sanskrit followed by the text in English giving the bhashyas of Sankara, Ramanuja and Madhva as well as the pertinent tikkas, tippanis etc. and provides a wonderful wholesome study of the first 6 chapters of the Gita for the devotees in the present time. This republication is expected to produce a total of about 1200 printed pages in two volumes having about 600 pages in each volume of the book. Books on Gita giving the Dvaita points of view in English are quite rare and this project addresses this void. It is planned to bring out a total of about 1000 copies in this republication and it is expected that there will be a wide distribution and appeal to this book since it is in English. The actual reprinting is set to commence soon and the release of the newly printed books in an appropriately arranged book-release function in India is expected in the next few months. ********************************************************************************\ **************** --- vasu_murthy wrote: > Krishnabhaktas, > One acquaintence of mine is looking for a Bhagavad Gita translation in English based on > madhva tradition. Guest guest
Dear Vasu, I would recommend book from 1. Sri Dr. Prabhanjanacharya its called "Gitamadhu". He mentions in his book that Sri Madhva Acharya was the first two write commentaries on both Mahabharata and Gita. Srimadacharya wrote "Gita Bhashya" and "Gita TatpryaNirnaya" to explain the meanings of Gita. "MahaBharataTatparya Nirnaya" explains MahaBharat. 2. There is also another really great book on Bhagvad Gita by Pejawar Swamiji. I don't remember the name. But it was my first book on Gita and really got me thinking. Its very simple and easy to read ( I had to read it many times though I will post the name when I get it. Krishnarpanam Happy New year to you all!! /Phanindra "vasu_murthy" <vasu_murthy Sent: Saturday, December 30, 2006 9:14:03 PM Bhagavad Gita translation in English Krishnabhaktas,One acquaintence of mine is looking for a Bhagavad Gita translation in English based on madhva tradition. Guest guest
Dear Vasu,I have with me the pocket book that Mr. Sathya mentions, published by Suguna Samsath, and as a matter of strange coincidence just finished reading the book yesterday. I wholly recommend this book if time is of the essence and if you are looking for an English translation, although this one is almost like a literal translation devoid of any extrapolations or lengthy explanations and sticks to point. My next goal is to read any and all works of Madhwas, preferably in English to make for a quicker read and better grasp, knowing very well that the original flavor, derivable if read in Kannada (or is it Tulu that the Gita Bhasya & Tatparya Nirnaya is written in?), is lost.Regards,KrishnaM.S.
