Sri Purandara Dasara Smarane - Part 1

Namaskara All,

 

As we all know, Sri Purandara Dasara Aradhane is fast approaching.

This is a humble effort to make known some of the portion of the life history of Great Dasaru.

I am trying to capture those aspects of Dasaru, which might not be a well known and famous episode of his life time. As usual, your comments, feedback & criticisms are welcome.

 

Purandara Dasara Ankita Naama & Life Style of a typical Dasaru

 

Once Srinivasa Nayaka (erstwhile Dasaru) realised the value of Materialitic assets compared to Sri Hari Dasya.

He left everything, and travelled towards Hampi along with his wife (Saraswathi Bai) and son (Madhwapathi).

At Hampi he met Sri Vyasarajaru, who was expecting him and welcomed him along with the family.

 

Sri Vyasaru did a Sudarshana homa next day and did a Chakrankana to the entire family. He gave Manthropadesha and made him to be Bhagavatha Dharma Deekshitha.

 

For any Hari Dasa, following are the 'assets'

Dandige betha, Gopala Butti, Tulasi Male, Taptha Mudrankana.

 

Above all these, Kavyankita is also a very important, which has to be given by Gurugalu after Ankitopadesha.

Sri Dasaru got all these from Sri Vyasaru and has composed a keerthane on the same:

 

aNkithavillada deha niShidDha,

aNkithavillada kaaya sHoBhisadu,

aNkithavillade irbaaradendu enage

chakrankithavanu maadiyenage

pankajanabha Purandara viTalanna

aNkithavenegitha Vyasamuniraya

 

Also on the features of a Hari Dasa, he has composed the following:

 

eLe tulasiya vanamale dharisikolabeku,

GhaLilanE Hariya poojisuthirabeku,

kaLakaLane ekamana karaguthirabeku

naLinanaabhana Naama pogaLuthirabeku

Haroyane anavaratha neneyuthirabeku

karagaLali hariyanu poojisuthirabeku

charaNangalali punya sthaLava mettalubeku,

Purandara viTalanna neneyuthirabeku.

 

He is the one who is known as "Thrikarana Poorvaka Hari Dasa".

 

Dasaru also has composed the below on those people who did Sampradaya Akshepane:

aDda dhiddi mudregala badidhukondinnu

doDda doDda maathugaLaadi doDdavarembheLikoMba

baddidhagaDi makkaliginnu Vaishnava salluvude?
