The Aradhane happened to be Chaitra Krishna Trithiya,

the same day as Sri Vageesha Theertharu.

really appreciate the mail regarding the history of shree subhodendra gurus life history , it was really informative and my question of y mantralaya mutt is called nanjangud mutt was answered.

 

There was a minor correction to be done in the details given by you , the aradhane falls on Chaitra masa Krishna paksha thritiya and not on Vyshakha Shukla Thrithiya.Vyshakha Shukla Thrithiya seems to be the sacred day of Akshaya Threetiya.

 

Please correct me if im wrong.

1) Had spent lot of time on Paata Pravachana for his shishyas2) He was the reason for Mantralaya SRS Mutt getting associated with Nanjan Gud and changing the perception

of shifting the HQ of the Mutt. The story goes like this....

 

 

3) In 1811 during MummaDi Krishna Raja Wodeyar regime, Tippu sultan had stopped the grant to Mantralaya Mutt relating to Nagari expenses on elephant, “Hagalu deevaTige Seva” etc. It was in a pitiable state of affair for the PeeTaadhipathi to run the Mutt in those days.Hence they could not undertake “ Sanchaara” also. A stage had reachedwhen they were thinking of “Moola Raama devaru” to be worshipped on a banana leaf.

 

VaiNeeka Venkatasubbaiah was a close associate of the Raaja, It so happened that the King asked him whether the temples and Mutts were running satisfactorily. For those places where their Seva were arranged..Venkatasubbayya replied that every mutt had sufficient grants except his mutt. The King decided that he should look into Mutts and temples that were situated outside Mysore State also.

 

So a letter was sent to Sri Subhodendra theertha of Mantaralaya to come to Mysore. Srigalu came to Mysore. Many sanskrit scholars composed poems on him.

 

4) Abhinava Janaradhana Vittala was a lame Haridaasa. He had the “PooRNaanugraha” of Sri Raghavendra and was able to walk. He was called 'prema daasa.'

He composed a keerthana :

Banda nODe indu subHODhendra munipaGuru! Banda.

SrushTiyoLu thamma DayaavrishTipuTTida ra maRuShTavamtharigathi iShTava koDuva guru!Muddu Abhibnava janaaradhana vittala padaPadma maaduka kalpa drumaaashrayadhinda !!

 

The swamiji asked him to explain the 3rd Stanza. Premadaasa replied that when a Mataadhipathi or a scholar composed a Poem, the Yathis recognise their Paandithya and perform “ Sanmaana” whereas “ Haridaasa” are not recognised at all. In other words it meant that haridaasaru were notvidwaamsas. If the yathis were considerate, the so called sophisticated “Vaideekas” would be respected

 

The swamiji understood the point, he beckoned him to come near and removed the “ Tulsi Maala decked with gold and pearls” and adorned the haridaasa.

 

5) The King heard to the swamiji. There was a debate as to why Sri Raama was looking sad. Each one tried to explain in his own way. Sri Subhodendra theertha summed up saying that the King was ruling the State on account of his Poorva janma PuNya and sri Rama had made him king now. For doing the Pooja Phala now, Sri Raam was looking poor in thinking as to what position he should bestow on him in the next janma.

 

The King Understood the message. Next Day the Samsthana Pooja took place. Sri Moola Raam was decked with precious jewels etc. The King made an appeal that the Sri Mutt should be in Nanjangud. A mutt was constructed at Nanjangud. A big House was constructed called “ DoDDa Mane” this house is still there. Six Gramas were given. A sum of Rs 1000 pm was sanctioned as grant for the Mutt. The Mutt became prosperous during the regime of Sri Subhodendra and Sri Sujanendra.

 

Hence Sri Raghavendra swamy Mutt was associated with the name “Nanjanagud” from then onwards. It became so famous, that all vidwaamsa who wanted to meet the King were asked to go to Nanjangud Mutt as per the orders of the King.
