On behalf of Dr. Shrinivasa Havanur I am posting this content. Thank

HARIDASA CYCLOPAEDIA

SYNOPSIS

In

2003 A.D.

the Karnataka Government published 50 volumes of Haridasa Keerthanas.

It

contains as many as 15,600 songs composed by 140 Haridasas. Obviously

it is too

largest a collection. And it includes the compositions of Madhvas,

Shrivaisnavas, Advaitis and even non-Brahmins such as Kanakadasa and

Badesab

Ramadasa. Also there are nearly 15 Women-Haridasa.

But

then what

is the content-matter of so many Keerthanas? What are all the

compositions on a

given item, say, Mahalakshmi or Dashavatara? It is extremely difficult

to find

it out.

A

project was

planned to identify the subject-content of each song and indicate these

songs

under specific subjects.

To

my

surprise I could find out as many as 860 themes on which Haridasas have

sung.

All

the 860

themes were fed to the computer covering the entire 15,600 Keerthanas

along

with the following information:

Sl.No.

Haridasa’s Nom-de

Plume

Pallavi

Govt. Vol. No.

To

this some

supplementary and helpful material is added.

The

usefulness of this stupendous work can be gauged thus:

If

one wants to know some basic information on any one song, he can

readily have it.

If one wants

material or information on any subject (out of 860) he can instantly

get a list of all Keerthanas along with:

a)

Ankita

of Haridasa

b)

Its

Pallavi and

c)

The

Govt. Vol. number

Anyone

intending to do higher studies, say, at the Ph.D. level or write a book

on any aspect of Dasa Sahitya he can have a ready list of the sources.

A

list of analytical and critical treatises on Haridasa literature is

also available to know how far research has been done and to encourage

taking up further studies.

A

brief sketch of all the Haridasas (140) is also given.

In short, it

is aimed at serving the

purpose of a cyclopeadia of Dasa Sahitya.

I propose to

store all this in a website.

Can any one come forward to do the needful? So that every one

interested in

Haridasa Sahitya can find it helpful.
