K.Kanteshacharya Kadaramandalagi Book Review By: Mohan Chippagiri Every day we will be chanting “Gayatri Mantra†at the time of doing “Sandhyavandaneâ€. But, most of us do not know why it should be chanted and how many times to chant and what are the methods to chant and what would be the posture at the time of chanting and how it is connected to the Lord and other Gods? Who is Gayatri? Why the name came as Gayatri for the mantra and lot more questions arise if we go deep into this vast subject Gayatri. We cannot by ourselves get answers to these questions There should be someone to help us in getting answers to these basic questions. Luckily, a book “DHEEMAHI†compiled by K. Kanteshacharya Kadramandalagi will be our companion and solve many queries related to this Great Gayatri Mantraâ€. This Book is the collection of series of Lectures given by Shri 1008 Shri Satyama Teertha Swamiji of Shri Uttaradimath and the author has compiled these lectures in the form of book titled Dheemahi in Kannada language. This book is divided into three sections. The first Section deals with the importance of the Gayatri and information related to chanting of Gayatri and second section deals with different meanings of Gayatri and he also discussed about 37 Prathans in Gayatri. The third section deals with Dasavathara cintane in Gayatri and also 24 Keshava Namas in Gayatri. Today, we have lot of ambitions in our life. We expect lot of things from near and dear. We waste our time in indulging in matters not related to us. All these issues are discussed clearly in this book. Mere chanting the Gayatri will not give peace of mind to us. In addition to that the book says we should have Brahmacharya, Tapas, Sadachara and Satya.

For all individuals we should chant Gayatri Mantra for 24 Lakhs in our life time and also woman they should complete 12 Lakhs Krishna Mantra in their life time. To vanish our sins we have committed Gayatri Matra acts a RAMA BANA. The book also discusses the various sins committed by us. The book talks about the origin of the “Gayatri and how many letters are present in the Gayatri and also how to do anusandhana at the time of chanting the Gayatri. Many verses of Sri Madhwacharya’s and Teekarayaru and also dasaru padas are quoted. The author has refered many Grantas. How Shri Vishwamitra has became the Rushi for this Gayatri mantra and also discussed about Gayatri Chandasu and also who are the abimana devathas for the Gayatri mantra. Cinthane of Dasavatharas in Gayatri is very interesting. The Author has taken each and every Dasavathara and explained vividly with pictures depicting these avataras. He also discussed about how Keshava Namas appear in Gayatri. This book contains the Benediction from Shri Satyatma Tirtha Sreepadangalavaru and this book is dedicated to Shri 1008 Shri Sathyapromoda Thirtharu Sri Sathyadhyanacharya Katti, Principal, Sri Jayateertha Vidyapeetha wrote a beautiful introduction to the book and an appreciation by R Katti is included. This book has a foreword by Pt. Rangacharya Guttala, Kulapati of Shri Jayateertha Vidyapeetha.

Kudos to K.M. Sheshagiri for designing beautiful cover page for this book. The wordings on the back cover is also good. With the blessings from the Swamiji the author compiled this great book and we all should appreciate the author for his hard work and efforts in bringing this book to us. We should encourage authors to do more and more services to the Sri Madhwacharya’s philosophy and we all expect more books from him in coming days.
