Inspired by Dr.V.Prabhanjancharya Article in Kannada

Maha Rudradevaru is considered as the Manoniyamakama diety. He plays a major role in our actions. According to In Veda and Puranas “SHIVA†is one of the thrimoorthis along with “BRAHMA†and “Lord VISHNU†.

Rudra Devaru has several names Mahadeva, Eswara, Maheshwara, Shankara, Shambhu, Vaishnadwaja, Vrusha Dwaja, Kruthivasa, Neelakanta, Pinaki, Rudra, Gangadhara,Nandi Vahana ,Ugra, Grantaspas, Pinaki, Rudra, Gangadhara, Nandi Vahana, Ugra ,SadhaSiva Sharva, Vamadeva, Mruthanjeya, Mukkanna, Naga Bhushana, Doorjati,Kamaraj, Tripurari,Chandra Shekara, Kapali,Raja Raja Sakha etc., He will be worshipped under different names. There is an important tale behind his every name. It is the greatness of Lord Shiva. He got the name “GANGADHARA†because he kept Ganga on his head, NEELAKHANTA he kept poisonous around his throat , for his beautiful appearance he has known as “VAMADEVA†for giving happiness he is called

“ SHANKARAâ€. He use NANDI has his Vahana(Vehicle) and he is called as Nandivahana. He got Mruthunjeya because he overrides “YAMA†adoring PINAKI Dhanasu(bow) he is called as Pinakini. Kruthivasa name got because he wears the animal skin as his dress. He got the name as “Tipurari or Purari because he killed the Tripurasura with the blessings of Brahma, Vishnu Putting the Chandra(Moon) on his matted hair he is known as Chandrashekara decorated with Snakes on his throat and on his body is called as Nagabhushana like this every name has an important story. He is also very famous by name Umapathi. Gajamukha and Shanmukha are the sons of Maha Rudra

devaru.

At the time of pralayakala Rudra will kill all the Indradadi Devathas and he will be dancing with joy at that time he has known as “Nataraja†Yama will be quaking with this incident and Shiva is called as “UGRA†this incident is narrated in Padma Purana, Uma Maheshwarasaamvada, Bhaghavatha Mahathame and Vasudeva Shahastranama. Puranas like “Shiva Puranaâ€, Skanda Purana and other Puranas. The importance of Siva is highlighted in Mahabharatha parva “Shivashastra Nama stotra .

Vaishnava sampradaya admires “Shiva†is like flowing of Ganges. In Sri Madhwacharya’s Tantrasara collections Siva Panchaskara mantra(Hym) is explained. In Narayana Pandithacharya’s “Shivastuthi†there is a beautiful stuthi dedicated to Shiva. Sri Vyasarajaru also written stuthi on Rudradevaru Sri Vadirajaru has highlighted the importance of MahaRudradevaru in his “Thirtha Prabandha†Purnas also mentioned Siva’s achievements in umpteen numbers.

Haridasa Sahithya played the major role in admiring the Rudra devaru. Some of the kruthis of dasaru and Madhwa yathigalu have became famous. Many Vaishnavas will be singing the kruthis of dasaru in their houses. Sri Purandaradasaru in his kruthi says “Mukithi Padake Manaveeva Maha Rudradevaru†Sri Vadirajaru kruthis on Rudra says like this “Dhavala Gangeya Ganghadhara Mahalinga Madhavana Torisai GuruKuloturnga†and Sri Vijayadasaru kruthi says “Kailasavasa Gowriesha esha Tailadhareyante Manasu kodu Shambhoâ€.

We should not pray to the Idol of Shiva but we should pray to the Shiva Linga because Brugha Maharshi has given curse which is mentioned in Padma Puranas and Bhaghavatha Puranas.

The Eight places of “Shiva†are famous “Kedaranatha†here “Siva†is known as “ “Shardulalinga†In Kashi known as Vishwanatha, Nageshwara of “Dwarakeya†Rameshwara of Rameshwaram, Srisaila Mallikarjuna of Srisaila, Hampi Virupaksha, Jambookeshwara of Sri Rangam, Mahakala of Ujjayeni and like. We Vaishnavas should not visit Kedaranath.

We should think “RAVANAâ€, BASMASURA†etc., are killed even though they are ardent devotees of Shiva but they losts their lives because of their satanic qualities. We should also pray Maha Rudradevaru according to Taratamya Pasupatha came from the mouth of “Shiva†and Bhagahavatha came from the heart of Shiva.

With the blessings from Hari Vayu Gurugalu and being inspired by Dr. V.Prabhanjancharya’s article in Kannada I have brought this article before you and I bring to a close this article with Sri Vijayadasara Kruthi “Kailasavasa Gowriesha esha Tailadhareyante Manasu kodu Shambho……â€.
