Guest guest
Hare Srinivasa!Sri Vijayadasa gurubyoh namah! vijayarAyara pAda nijavAgi naMbalu ajana pita tAne olivA "The father of Brahma will automatically bestow grace on one who trusts in the feet of VijayarAya completely and absolutely." This is what Mohana Dasaru, his spiritual son has to say of this great Dasaru. Mohana Dasaru was cured of dire diseases during his infancy and was brought up by Dasaru with the milk that was used to do abhisheka to the Lord, with the teertha, with the akhate and ganda that was offered to the Lord. Sri Vijaya Dasaru is the avatara of Sri Brighu muni. He has written about the Lord's complete independence in the working of the world. He states that one who fully understands the extent of Hari's hand in each and every area, be it subtle or physical of each individual jiva as well as the entire creation will be the recipient of eternal bliss which is moksha. One may ask where is it mentioned in this devarunama about moksha Dasaru says , Ananda,Ananda matte paramAnaMda. Once the jiva becomes aware of the Lord supremacy and control, he/she expereinces bliss and more bliss. Then later he/she expereinces the maximum bliss that can be expereinced by himself/herself . This is the state of moksha . The varNas,the pancha bhutas, the karmEndriya vyAparas, the jNanendriya vyAparas, jaDa vastus all remind the jNAni about the Lord and His magnificient glory. To such a person there is nothing but bliss, bliss and repeatedly great bliss. On the contrary if one wants to obtain bliss,bliss.......endless bliss ie moksha then one has to understand the Lord's supremacy and control on the entire cosmos. The entire range of sounds including all vowels, consonants and their deergas and rasvas are all the names of the Lord. Every name, every sound is the name of the Lord. Lord Krishna says in BG 7.8 rasOhamapsu kouMteya prabhAsmi shashisuryayO praNavaH sarvavedeshu shabaH...... "O Arjuna, I am the one who endows the water with the properties of taste, I am the lustre of the Sun and moon,I am the sound in the sky, I am the Omkar-the essence of Vedas." All the words of every language are primarily the names of the Lord. So the moment one hears any sound the thoughts of the Lord's roopa or His mahima ie auspicious attributes should come to mind. The following verse brings home the importance of Vishnu smarane. vipado naiva vipadaHsampado naiva sampadaHvipad vismaraNaM visnoHsampan nArAyaNa smRtiH"There is no greater trouble or misfortune than forgetting the Lord and there is no greater fortune than having thoughts of the Lord Narayana."So unless one has complete smriti of Narayana, He cannot become complete. Completion is attaining the true knowledge of oneself as well as God within one's ability. Let us consider how this is possible ie how knowing that aksharas and sounds are the names of God helps us in becoming complete. One obvious reason is that such a person is knower of the Vedas, means the knower of the Lord as per ability so it follows that such a person will be blissful.Another reason is that is the means of sadhana for an ordinary person. How so? For this, We keep hearing sounds everyday. All sorts of sounds intelligible as well as unintelligible. Srimad Acharya has given an example of how one can do the anusandhana of God's mahima when hearing to the call of a lizard. The lizards call is similar to the sound that we humans make when we see something that is amazing beyond words. So it is possible to feel the wonder of the Lord's creation with respect to the lizard itself. Eg ; The lizard moves on a smooth vertical wall without slipping, if it's tail is cut off it still survives, there are so many varieties of lizards adapted to so many different habitats . Such attributes and many more can be contemplated on leading to the Lord's wonderful hand behind each of this. Recalling Acharya's dwadasha stotra on this, bahu chitra jagat bahudAkaraNat parashaktiranaMta guNah paramaH Let us look at a few sounds and try to do chintane of Lord's mahima in these. a) The sound 'a' - 'a' means that which is the first part of the 'Om' kara sound. Om is composed of 'a' ,'u' and'ma'. 'a' signifies that the Lord is not like anything that we see, He is not comprehendable in entirety, He is completely different from all etc. b)The sound sha- sha means jNAna. The Lord is the orgin of all knowledge and He is a treasure house of knowledge and bliss. c)anAmaya - Amaya is defects or flaws. anAmaya is one without any flaws- Lord Narayana. Now for a simple person like oneself who does not know sanskrit and cannot analyse the root forms of all sounds and hence will find it difficult to understand the sounds as attributes. Instead it is possible to associate the physical properties of the objects , the attributes of the person etc and discover the Lord's greatness therein. Eg the english word Sun. The sun is the giver of light and heat. It is the source of all energy and it has all these attributes because of the Lord's presence inside as antaryAmi giving the prerane and shakthi. Names of things - silver It is a metal whcih can be shaped into utensils and is a purifier of things. Water stored in silver has antibacterial properties not found generally. It is not only useful but also ornamental. All these special attributes are due to the Lord's special presence in it. So also for people who are good in arts, sports and have anything special about them. The Lord says in Bg 'yad yad vibhuti mat satvam....." Dasaru implies that such a training of the mind of associating every expereince with a mahima of God will eventually increase devotion and knowledge which are steps towards the goal. jalakAshTashaila gaganana nelapAvaka taruvu plalapushpaballigaLalli hari vyAptaneMaritavarige The pancha maha bhootas which are the basic components of all jaDa objects on earth. Water - It is a special cleanser which is odourless. It always flows from a higher level to a lower level. It gives taste to everything. It cools the atmostphere. It exists in three forms-solid as ice, liquid and gas as water vapour. All these special attributes are designed by the Lord so that the beings on earth can enjoy and learn. The wood, the mountain, the clouds, the earth, the fire, the trees, fruits, flowers, creepers and everything one sees points to the vividness of the Lord's creation and going deeper the great benevolence of the Lord in creating such a variety , not for Himself as He is swaramaNa and is completely blissful by Himself. All these are created by Him for the benefit of jivas, so that they can expereince, work out their karma and learn. Every outward expereince has something to teach and also cleans the personality of dirt depending on the jiva's swabhava. Continuous understanding of the Lord's control on all these things which we take for granted usually will move one towards accepting the Lord's Supremacy and one's dasatva in a very real and automatic manner. The acceptance should be out of expereince of one's dependence and not just because that is what the shastras say. Each time such an expereince occurs a strand of karma binding the jiva to the linga shareera will be cut-off. This is an animated way to visualize the Lord's benevolence in clearing one off the karma bondagea . if one remembers that He is the doer and one is the instrument while doing the karma. bArotAro herO Ero bIro tOro embudu EshaNe preraraNe yeMdaritavarige Dasaru is giving examples of actions and events and tracing everything back to the Lord's wish. A person comes, a person brings something, a person is heaped with responsibility, a person climbs to the top of one's career, one's business, or reaches spiritual heights etc, one gives a lot of gifts to another, one person shows something to another . All these occur only because the Lord instigated these actions and placed the persons who gave, as well as the persons who take , the place where the give and take takes place, the time where it takes place etc. The same is true for going to places. Every thing falls into place like the jigsaw puzzle because the Lord's will controls everything and His will is omnipresent and omnipotent . If one recoginizes this then there is nothing but pure bliss for the soul. Why? Because it gives rise to an equinamity of mind which is of utmost necessity to retain knowledge and move forward spiritually. Let us consider favourable and unfavourable events and do chintane of how it influences the expereince positively. A friend comes along . He brings a gift and that is an object which one wanted to buy since a long time. One is happy and thrilled wondering how the friend was aware about one's longing. One should understand that the Lord is behind everything and He gave the preraNe to the frined in order that one's desire is fulfilled. He is the cause but makes it difficult to relate to because He works through others. Jagannatha Dasaru in HKS says, manada vrittiagal anusarisi bhOgagalIva trivida chEtanake Often the expereince that one aspires for comes along sooner or later. This is because He sees the desire in the mind ,actually He places the desire in the mind and then moves external objects, events and people to create the experience especially for the jiva. Similarly if there is a loss or unpleasand expereince. One should understand that the Lord is behind this. He only caused the events to occur so that the loss occurred as it it is in tune with our karma and swabhava. This helps in creating having a balanced state of mind even during bad times. pOpudubarutippudu matte kOpashAMta mADuvudu roopalAvaMyavu hariya vyAparaveMdaritavarige Going and coming means moving about to different places is all Hari's vyApAra. Based on the prarabdha karma , yogyatha etc the Lord decides who should be where at what time and places them accordingly. If we observe our present position , it is the result of many many choices that were taken right through childhood. These choices if they had not been directed and controlled then the outcome would not be as the Lord wants it to be. So He definitely decides on each and every choice and moves the jivas accordingly. Sri Purandara Dasaru says , 'nine ADisadiralu jaDa oNakeya boMbe Enu mADalu balladu tAne nIniTTa sUtradim chalipavu kaikAlugalu nIne muggisalu mugguva deha" " I am like a wooden doll, without any motion. If it not were for You moving me as and how You want, I would be immobile. Just as a puppetter controls the hands and legs of puppets by the threads attached to them, so also You control my every movement be it physical or metaphysical." Sri Jagannatha Dasaru explains how He gives the expereinces to the jivas. He says, gaMdha rasa rUpa sparsha shabda oMdu tAnalla adarada pesariMda karesuta jIvarige tarpakanu tAnAgi poMdi koMDiha paramakaruNa siMdu shAshvata manave modalAda iMdriyagalolagiddu bOgisuvanu vishayagala " He exists in all the tanmatras with those specific names-smell,taste,sight,touch,sound, but He is not any of them. He gives the expereince to the jiva by being the instigator of the sense stimulus, the sense organ and the mind in receiving the input and processing it. He does this out of His compassion for the entire jivas and by His mere presence ,He does all this and accepts the expereince too ." What Vijayadasaru wants to highlight is that during each expereince one has to remember God's entire chain of events that cause this and finally offer it consiciously to the Lord, as that will lead one further in sadhana and finally to eternal happiness. madhvashAstra pravachana muddu krishnana darshuna shuddha vijayaviTTalana poMdi koMDaDuvarige "Bliss, bliss and more bliss is sure to be bestowed on one who listens and understands to the exposition of the philosophy of Sri Madhvacharya ..They finally see Lord Krishna and continue to serve the Lord Vijayavittala with great bhakthi and devotion even in moksha, knowing Him to be the purest of the pure." The word muddu shows the extent of vatsalya of Vijayadasaru for this form of the Lord. Krishna ....the name initiates a chain of thoughts of the bala leelas of the Lord as described in the Bhagavatam and inspires the devotee to feel vatsalya bhava of devotion. The word shuddha is used to indicate that even though He exists in the entire threads of these mundane world ,He remains unaffected by any of its negativity and is always pure. Bhesshma says ,'maMgalnAm cha maMgalam" Among all the purest things ,Vishnu is the purest. There is nothing more pure than Him, His name, His glory ,His attributes and His forms are all entirely different and pure.srI krishNArpanamastuI am not the doer, Lord Hari is the doerWhatever He makes me do is His worship by His graceR.
