Jnyana Satra at the Satyadhyana Vidyapeetha from 27-04-09 to 02-05-09.-A report.

                                                                                                          06-05-09.

Dear Reader,

The Jnyana Satra held from 27-04-09 to 02-05-09 at the Satyadhyana Vidyapeetha was unique in many ways. It was a jnyana satra of musical concerts and dance performance; of homas and discourses and of pratishthapana of Lord venkatesh, Lord Krishna, Prana devaru and nava vrindavana and of Shriman Nyaya Sudha anuwada.

A large number of pundits and devotees had come from different parts of the country to attend the jnyana satra. Beginning with regular pooja in the basement of the new complex, Vidwan Vidyasimhacharya performed special pooja for receiving divine blessings for the sanctification of the premises.

Musical concerts in the evenings were a treat for all and so was dance performance. Singers Smt. Vrushali Patil, Kum. Sucheta Kulkarni Shri. Raichur Sheshgiridas and Pundit. Vamanacharya Joshi lent an air of sublimity to the evening atmosphere with dasara padagalu and abhanga-Marathi bhajans. The ageless devotional songs rendered in a blend of classical and folk music presented puritanism. The Bharat Natyam programme by Kala Natyam Group, Sion, was also an elevating experience. The performers headed by Kum. Sharada held the spectators transfixed with their performance of the Dashavatara.

The Vidwan performed Vastu Shanti Homa for lasting peace and for furtherance of the divine cause of serving people on a larger scale. He also performed Pratishthapana Homa as a preparation to the pratishthapana of Lord Venkatesha and of other deities and nava vrindavana. Thirteen homa kundas were prepared; each homa had thirteen Brahmins well versed in the recitation of the Vedas to offer ahutis.  In all, they offered thirteen lakh ahutis to the chanting of the Vedic mantras, invoking the Lord for opulence of all devotees. The collective chanting of the Vedic mantras with appropriate intonation had a mesmerizing effect which was enhanced by the sanctity of the rising columns of smoke from the homa kundas and thick layers forming at the roof creating an impression of cloudy sky thereby. It was some thing like experiencing a yajnya described in the Puranas.

Senior pundis like S/shri. Krishnacharya Pachapur, Shrrenivasacharya Nagarhalli and Jayateerthacharya Malagi paid rich tributes to their guru, the late Vidwan shri. M.R.Gopalacharya. Justice B.N.Srikrishna, who had studied under Shri Gopalacharya spoke on the occasion. Shri. B.N.Srikrishna is an Adwaitin! Interestingly, Vidwan Gopalacharya had taught him Adwaita philosophy and later on Vidwan Vidyasimhacharya continued it. When he stood up to pay tributes to his guru, Vidwan Gopalacharya, his voice was choked with emotions; he remained silent for a few minutes, wiping tears of gratitude. A very fearless and courageous judge as he had been, he soon regained his composure and for the next 15 minutes or so, people could hear him paying tributes to his guru in chaste Kannada. A guru, he said, is compared to touchstone that turns iron into gold. Quoting Adi Shankaracharya, he said, a guru is such a touchstone, who, by a mere touch, turns a disciple not merely into gold, but into touchstone. On request from Vidwan Vidyasimhacharya, he spoke also in Sanskrit for the remaining 5 minutes during which, he said that the tributes paid to his guru had sanctified him.

Commenting on Shri. B. N Srikrishna’s tributes, Vidwan Vidyasimhacharya said that a guru has the capacity to melt even the hardest of the rocks.

The pratishthapana of lord Venkatesha began at 7-00 am, on 1st May, by which time the spacious hall was packed to its capacity. Devotees, who were late in coming, were provided with chairs outside with closed TV screens to witness the pratishthapana. Elaborate arrangements were made so as not to miss even a single ritual. 1013 kalashas of which 238 were made of silver, were made available by devotees for abhisheka and other kalashas made of copper ad brass were kept ready with milk, honey curd and holy water. At the appointed time, His. Holiness. Shri. Satyatma Teertha Swamiji did awahana to the chanting of the Vedic mantras by pundits. Then he performed mahakanakabhisheka to the Lord. Thereafter, His Holiness did pratishthapana of Lord Krishna, Prana devaru and nava vrindavana. The pratishthapana ceremony lasted for about three hours. During the process, the Lord looked glorious and he looked scintillating with ornaments.

The devotees were served panaka and cold milk to beat the sweltering heat. They were served prasada thereafter. They dispersed with the pratishthapana event deeply engraved on the mind.

The last day, 2nd May was devoted to Sriman Nyaya sudha anuwada by Vidwan Vidyasimhacharya in the presence of His. Holiness. He began anuwada at 9-00 am and went on to explain complex philosophical equations but in Sansnkrit except for the concluding part, which he explained in Kannada.

The Vidwan has been requested give a Kannada version of the anuwada for the Maadhwa Bandhus, who are not conversant with Sanskrit..

Some photographs of the pratishthapana ceremony are sent herewith. The writer is sure that the readers would like them and preserve for a long time.

With best regards,

Ramachandra Tammannacharya Gutti.
