Namaskara -Nice article - extracted from Self Realization courses.

In this world there is nothing more sure than death, but yet we continue dreaming that we will never die. This amazing phenomenon was described by Maharaja Yudhisthira when his father, Yamaraja, asked him, " What is the most amazing thing the world? " Yudhisthira replied:

ahany ahani bhutanigacchantiha yamalayamsesah sthavaram icchantikim ascaryam atah param " At every moment countless numbers of living entities are being dragged to the court of Yamaraja (the god of death). But those who are remaining here are thinking that they will live forever. What could be more amazing than this? "

--Mahabharata (Vana-parva 313.116)Death cannot be avoided because it is all-powerful. Why is it all-powerful? Because it is a manifestation of Krishna, Who states in Bhagavad-gita (10.34), mrtyuh sarva-haras caham: " I am all-devouring death. " Krishna comes as death and takes away everything - our car, our house, our bank balance, our PhD degree, our wife, our children and everything else. One cannot say, " Dear death, kindly give me some time to make the proper arrangement. " Death will not give you such facility. One must immediately vacate one's present existence.

Therefore the Srimad Bhagavatam advises us:tasyaiva hetoh prayateta kovidona labhyate yad bhramatam upary adhahtal labhyate duhkhavad anyatah sukhamkalena sarvatra gabhira-ramhasa " Persons who are actually intelligent and philosophically inclined should endeavor only for that purposeful end which is not obtainable even by wandering from the topmost planet down to the lowest planet. As far as happiness derived from sense enjoyment is concerned, it can be obtained automatically in course of time, just as in course of time we obtain miseries even though we do not desire them. "

--Srimad Bhagavatam 1.5.18We should intelligently heed the above advise and fully dedicate our lives to attain the deathless state of Krishna consciousness by reviving our original eternal spiritual identities as the servants of Krishna.  Then death will no longer be fearful for us.  It will simply be a stepping stone into our eternal transcendental existence.
