SHRI SHRI HARIKATHAMRITHASARA WITH BHAVA PRAKASHIKE

Dasakoota Sabha, Devarayanadurga established by Sri

Thandemuddumohanavittala Dasaru (1865-1940 A.D.) has great pleasure in placing

before the public the great composition, Sri Harikathamrithasara of Sri

Jagannatha Dasaru with Bhava Prakashike an important and detailed commentary by

Sri Padmanabha Dasaru. This commentary was first published in about the year

1932 A..D. and does not seem to have seen the print again. Sri Harikathamrithasara by Sri Jagannatha Dasaru in poetic

form is the CROWN JEWEL in Haridasa literature in Kannada language. It is

supposed to contain the essence of all shastras in accordance with Sri

Madhwacharya’s Dwaita system of philosophy and is considered almost equal

to ‘Sriman Nyayasudha’, the Magnum Opus of Sri Jayatheertharu in Samskrit

language. Sri Harikathamrithasara is termed as Anusudha (Mini Sudha and

also a work in accordance with Sudha) in the circle of scholars. The study of

Sri Harikathamrithasara in Dasa Sahithya is therefore considered equivalent to

the study of Sriman Nyayasudha in Vyasa Sahithya. Hence, the importance of the

commentaries (vyakhyanas) on it. Sri Harikathamrithasara has several detailed commentaries

both ancient and recent. It has the unique distinction of a work by a

householder (grihastha) being commented upon even by an ascetic (sanyasi), as

also a work in Kannada having commentaries in Samskrit also. Sri Thandemuddumohanavittala Dasaru popularly known as

Paramapriya Subbaraya Dasaru of Devarayanadurga established Dasakoota Sabha in

the year 1900 A.D. He had a scholarly disciple by name Palladam Madhavacharya

originally from Tamilnadu. The Acharya had earlier taken to Sanyasa and

renounced the same later due to his inability to observe the austerities

associated with the ascetic life. The Guru who had ordained him to sanyasa

suggested sacrifice of life as the only form of atonement, but obviously the

Acharya could not follow the same. Later he was attracted to Sri Subbaraya Dasaru

and became one of his ardent disciples and received the Ankita – Sri

Padmanabha Vittala. On seeking relief for his past sins Sri Padmanabha Dasaru

was ordered by his new Guru to write a commentary on Sri Harikathamrithasara

in atonement. Accordingly, Sri Padmanabha Dasaru wrote a detailed commentary

based on the lessons he had earlier received from his Guru and submitted the

same to him. The Acharya shed his mortal coil soon after, sometime in the year

1931 A.D. It is significant that this book is being published by the

inheritors of the legacy of Sri Subbaraya Dasaru and his Dasakoota Sabha.. The

publishers are keenly interested in the propagation of the study of Sri

Harikathamrithasara as also the commentary, ‘Bhava Prakashike’.

They have therefore priced the publication almost at its cost price of Rs.

300/-. It is hoped that a large number of people will avail of this benefit. Sri Chippagiri Mohan, Administrator of www.Vijayadasaru.net group of portals is bringing out this E-book with our permission. This book contains about 800

pages and seems to be the largest E-book

of this portal. May Sri Harivayugurugalu bless and enable Sri Chippagiri

Mohan to bring out more E-books of

this kind. All enquiries about this book may be addressed to: 1. Sri N.V. Sundara Rao, No. 1328, Dwaraka, 1st
