i) Hasanaamba

Darshanarabha at Hassan

(for the benefit of Old Mysoreans)

This temple is situated in the Hassan Town . The temple is

opened for 12 days in a year and closed

on Kartheea Shukla dwitheeya day.

A "jathre" will also take place.

People from

different parts come and have darshan of the Grama devatha.

A grinding stone which was 85feet away when I had seen about 66 years ago has

moved nearer to the temple premises moving @

one foot per year. Nobody can dig, lift

and shift. It is a mystery as to how it moves by a foot every year? When the door is opened on the specific day one could see the Nanda Deepa burning still and does not get put off even though all doors and windows are closed like in Badrinath Temple..

2) Temple at HaNakoNa:

There is very small village HaNakONa in Karwar district of Karnataka

State. There is a small temple called

. It is opened on the 3rd day after Ganesh chathurthi SaathEri

day. Photography is prohibited. Usual

jathra, pooja Punaskara takes place for 7 days and closed on the 7th day and

opened next year only. Devi's darshan is available for 6 days and nobody

worships the Devi photo daily, just like Haasanaamba

Bhakthas from Maharashtra, Goa also come

and perform seva and return. In olden days it was considered that girls

reaching the age of puberty would be eligible for marriage.

But now the Government has fixed 18 years

as the age for marriage. Those who believe in tradition, in that town believe

that girls should offer " AdeechikE

to the Devi to become eligible to marry. "Adichike" means a small basket containing rice,

coconut, betel leaves, Nut, Oil etc.

They offer to the Devi.

The temple is opened in the presence of the

head of the Town.

Second day night at Midnight 12 Pm the sanctum sanctorum door is opened and Pooja is performed.

And girls start offering

"adichike" and gents offer what is called "ThaLi".

On the seventh day the temple doors are

closed and one has to wait for another year to come to have the " Pooja

Bhagya".

Is it not a

mystery ?

3) There is a temple near South Canara

District . People throng at the entrance of the Temple. They wait,

with wide opened eyes gazing at

the opening of the closed- Door. The temple

door gets opened itself. Afterwards the pooja is performed. Another Vismayakaari Vishaya

iv) There is a Chowdeshri temple, just on

the outskirts of Maddur town, after the Bridge towards Bangalore side, take a

left turn, drive for 3 kms, Hemmana HaLLi,

a small village. as you reach the

village, take a right turn . Lo! The

Temple in front.

The wall of the temple built on the sanctum

sanctorum is broken.

The chief gets inside and brings the

lighted lamp outside crossing the Mud

for the darshan of huge crowd gathering

at Mid night People see the deity

with the oil lamp still burning. It would be opened at Mid night 12 am and

pooja takes place. After 36 hrs, a wall with new mud mixed with tender coconut

water (Ela Neeru) is constructed and the temple gets closed till next year. It

is believed that the deity,Shakti swaroopiNi

would be in calm stature for these 36

hours only and would bless people

and on the rest of the days pooja is done to the wall. The mud (Mrittike) is

distributed to Bhaktas who use as panacea for all skin diseases. Some mystery.

When you speak of the Mrittike, the mud, a

panacea for all skin ailments, it reminds me of a temple in the

same Maddur town, just 3 kms called

Vaidyanatheeswara a shiva temple on the banks of the Shimsha river. Here also

the mud taken from the shiva linga is distributed to Bhakatas. I read from the

News letter of Sri Uttaradhi mutt that the swamiji during his visit to HoLekere Mukhya PraNa

devaru installed by sri Vyasarayaru (

another temple in the midst of Maddur

Town) Opposite to sri Maddur Narasimhaswamy temple( about 3 kms) paid a visit

to this Vaidyanatheeswara temple on Maha Shivaratri day and spoke about the

sanctity of the Mrittika

Having read this I paid a visit to

Vaidyanaatheswara temple, HoLekere Anjaneya swamy and as also Chaowdeshwari

temple in Maddur town.

ii)

Sri SathyamaaDhava T P D (TambihaLLi)

PooRvashram Name: Shree KrishNamurthy

Achar, hailing from a Traditional

family. A person who was worshipping "Hanumantha"

He was in the Police Department and was

visiting Sripadharajar Mutt often.

Participating in the Mutt activities, listening to Upanyaasa,

Keerthana's etc had great impact on him and his mind was tending towards

spiritual side.

An astrologer had already told, seeing his

horoscope that he had " sanyaasa

yoga" On account of his past heritage, he had acquired Bhakthi, Jnaana

and vauraagya.

Sri Veera Madhava theertha, after observing

him decided that he was the suitable successor for the samsthaana after him.

Gave ashram later on and named him Shree Sathya Maadhava theertha " It

appears many did not like his ascent to

the samsthaana and expressed

dissatisfaction.

He used to recite Sumadhwa vijaya,

Vaayusthuthi etc after bath. He never

spoke to anybody after bath. He

was sitting for hours together at the

Hanuman Temple (Installed by sri Vyaasarajar) and had close association

with Hanuma.

Many used to approach him for relief from

their ailment. He was performing.

Abhisheka from the Honey to TambihaLLi PraaNa dhevaru and their desire

got fulfilled. That was the belief in

those days.

When he took the samsthana, it was in a bad

state of condition. The lands had gone

to the Ryots as per Tenancy Act. The income from bhakthas was meager. He could not undertake travel, as

there were no means of transport.

In such a condition, the mutt was offering

only " Raagi Mudhdhe" to God as

"neivedhya" and one could imagine the condition of the Mutt in

financial matters.Limgaabhudhi Krishna Murthy took charge as Agent of the Mutt

and from his personal property managed

the affairs of the Mutt.

Sri Sathya Maadhava Theertha was true to

his name. Though it was running in a poor state, yet they used to offer

whatever Shree Veera Rama had given for

the Day to the Bhakthas.

As already indicated, there were jealous people who wanted to give

trouble to the Swamiji. They planned to dethrone him. They hired a few goondas and attacked the

mutt on one evening. Swamiji was doing PaarayaNa and on hearing left to "

Hanuma" to take care of the situation which had planned protest, arson,

and injury to the saint.

When the goondas wanted to enter the Mutt,

they observed two strong warriors

standing in front of the mutt. Their very sight frightened them. They

stood like Jaya-vijaya on the two sides and on seeing them, they fled away out

of fear and escaped in a vehicle.

The swamiji felt that the Goondas were

fortunate to see the Veerarama'sassiatnts viz.,

Hanuma -Bheema. He felt unhappy as he was unfortunate and could not

have the

glimpse of the Lord like the goodness. Sri Veera rama came in his dream

and told him that he was getting worship all alone and that he should go to

Belam palli near Salem (Tamil nadu), bring Seetha Rama etc to Tambe HaLLi.

He went to Salem and searched for an old

abandoned house, which was indicated by

Veera rama. The local people advised him not to go to that house as there was

an anthill atop of which a cobra was sitting and it was not advisable to break open the anthill.

The swamiji said that Lord Rama himself had

given the command to bring him to Tambehalli and as such he dared to break the

anthill. He himself started removing the anthill. Seeing his courage the local

people assisted him in removing the mud.

Thouh it was noon, neither the Cobra nor Rama could be seen.

At last in the evening at " GoDhuLi

time" they saw a "Samputa" below the " Huththa". Swamiji after Paying gratitude to the Samputa

and touchingthem to his eyes opened and found Rama, Seetha, LakshmaNa,and

Srinivaasa in silver and in

Pattabhiraama in pancha Loha. Shree Sathyamaadhava was very happy

At the request of the Local people Pooja

was performed and on the next day the samputa was taken in procession to tambe

HaLLi. Even to day at poojatime one could see these idols at the samsthaana.

After 28 years of samsthanaa pooja he gave

Ashram to Sri Vijaya madhava Theertha and entered Brindavanam on Ashweeja bahuLa Shasti at

tambehaLLi.
