It appears that Sri Rahavendra Teertha had ordained that Sri Sumatendra teertha should take the PitaDipati. He had great reverence to Gururajaru, Sri Gururajaru also liked him for his Extraordinary intelligence- scholarship and grasping power. After he took Sanyasa, he came to “AraNi”. There was a Madhwa Jagirdar by name SuBhanurAya. He had consumed a type of oil in Ayurveda by name “ Jyotishmati” and called himself a great Ayurveda PunDit. He was fond of draging people to debate and thought that sri Sumateendra was young and he cold defeat him. He invited him to his palace, and after SatkAra, askd him to get ready for a debate. He took a ticklish point in “VyakaraNa” and set for Vyakyaartha. He was really a great scholar in ShaT ShhAstra. The debate went on for 8 days. Observing that Subhanuraya was getting closer to defeat, he asked the Swamji whether he could contest in poetic competition. The swamiji replied that he did not worship KaLi Devata like Kalidasa, , so also did not taste Jyotishmati oil like him and did not stole words like him, but still he could compose a poem. The Jagirdar realized that it was the end of the debate and surrendered to Swamiji. He declared that he was the best Yatiarys in the lineage of the Yatis of mutt and so saying he presented the Rahu Ketu Vadya to the swamiji. The MaharaNi of Madurai Sansthana by name Mangamma dragged the swamiji for a debate and observing the swamiji’s ‘Varchassu” presented a Navaratna Kachita idol by name VaikunTa Vasudeva which belonged to the Madurai Palace. Sri Suyameendra teertha toured south and met heLavana Katte giriyamma who gave Prathamathah Teertha mantrakashate to her observing her devotion and Bhakti. After his Northen India tour he came to sri ranga and saw Ranaganatha swamy having no “Kanti” in the face of the Lord. A Magician had turned the Lord Raganatha swamy of Sri Rangam face to be out of brightness, radiance and Lustre. In otherwords he made the Lord”s face to lower the brightness or render pale, dim or lose luster. At the request of the priests, sri Suyameendra teertha was successful in surmounting and restored the “Kanti”. He installed sri PraNa Devaru in front of sri ranaganatha swamy” On account of his association with Shahajis of Maharashtra he was able to get lands, grants for the sansthana. He has written commentaries to the old script Tatwa Prakashika, Rama DanDaka, Yogeendra,TarAvali Sri Sudheendra teertha was the able Yati who could speak on authority about the vyakhyanas of Sri Suyameendra teertharu.
