2nd December, Wednesday ,POORnIMYAM

15th Day in Margashira shukla paksha.

(i) Hostila HunniMe- Phalapoojee HuNNime.

Importance of Doors:

Each of the eight directions and each of the individual locations of the padam (modules) of a building has its own significance.

It is the “threshold”, which connects the identity of the individual with his inner self.

It is also deeply connected with the fortunes and other things of a family.

The threshold or the main doorway of a house is the dwelling place of the divine trinity Lord Ganapathy, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswathi. This doorway is the entrance to the office, of Brahmma as per Vastu Shastra

In order to invite DEVATAS, ladies perform “ Hosatila Pooja” [called Hosthilu-Threshold-]

Daily all sumanagalis perform this pooja

In Janapada parlance in Karnataka they say “ Hosatila DaaTuvudaroLagaage, Hottu MuLuguttade”. It contains something connected with the Sun and “DakshiNaayan”

In this Margashira Maasa, the day would be for 11 hrs only Next Month would be SankramaNaMaasa. How Hostilu Pooja is done:

(1) Cleaning the House with Gomaya :

Praatha kaalethu Yaa Naaree Gomayayenaanu lepayeth |

Prathyaham Sadhanam Saapi Naiva DhuKhaani Pashyathi ||

Meaning: It is a must for the housewife to get up early in the morning and clean the house with: “ Gomaya”. By so doing, not only she, but also the whole house would be Happy.

(2) Decorating the house with Rangavalli:

Yadh Griham Raajathe Nithyam Rangavalyanuramjitham |

Thad Grihe vasathe Lakshmee Nithyam PooRNa Kalaanvithaa||

Meaning: The house that is decorated, daily with Rangavalli or Kolam (in tamil) will be filled, full with art, with goddess Lakshmi .

(3) Parvathi resides on the Hosthilu:

Udhumbare vasenithyam Bhavaanee SaRva Devathaa|

Athascha Prathyaham Poojyah ganDha- Pushpa- AkshathaaDhiBhih i||

Meaning: Parvathi resides on the Hosthilu (threshold of the main Entrance), with all the Devis. Therefore, the housewife must perform Hosthilu Pooja, daily with ganDha- Puashpa and Akshathe kaaLu.

(4) Hosthilu must not be bare:

Asoonyaa dhehalee KaaRyaa Praathah kaale VisheShathah |

Yasya Shoonyaa Bhaveth Saa thu Shoonyam Thasya Kulam Bhaveth. ||

Meaning: The Hosthilu, always and especially in the early morning, should not be left bare. It should be cleaned and adorned with Rangavalli. If the Hosthilu were to be bare, the whole generation (Vamsha or kula) would be Shoonya.

There is a proverb in Kannada
