Guest guest
From harekrishna dot comI know even many more. In the present society it is seems impossible to avoid things of animal origin. Even sugar that we purchase from market is decolourised using activated charcoal--- the source is animal bones !! ______Following is but a partial list of the un-bonafide ingredients typically found in today's processed foods. The food additives list was excerpted from " A Consumers Dictionary of Food Additives " by Ruth Winter, M.S. It is disturbing to note that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not require food manufacturers to clearly label packages -- they are not even required to disclose that animal products are contained in foods that might appear to be vegetarian. Hidden away beneath the laboratory names of food additives, chemicals, emulsifiers, etc., are beef, horse, and even human by-products. The more you read on this subject, the more you will scrutinize the exact nature of foodstuffs you purchase for preparation and offering to Lord Krsna! Please note that this list does not include egg, onion or garlic ingredients, all of which are considered un-bonafide, and are not offerable to Sri Krsna. UN-BONAFIDE FOOD ADDITIVES ADDITIVE Albumin (Albumen) and Lactalbumin Ambergris (Spermaceti) Blood Calcium Stearate (Stearic Acid) Calcium Stearoyl Lactylate Cholic Acid Choline Bitartrate Civet, Absolute Cysteine. " For instance, if we want to purchase something, we must at least have some idea of what that thing is, otherwise we will be cheated. If we want to purchase a mango from the market, we must at least know what type of food a mango is and what it looks like. Similarly, we must have some preliminary knowledge of the qualifications for a bona fide spiritual master. " Elevation to Krsna Consciousness, Chapter 6 Following is a limited list of some of the brand name products availale on supermarket shelves which seem, at first glance, to be vegetarian. On closer inspection, however, we find that a variety of animal products are included in these foods as flavoring agents, emulsifiers, additives, etc. As above, we have not included products containing eggs, onion or garlic in the following list. Eggs are one of the most often included items on the un-bonafide foods list that you'll find in processed foods. Fortunately, in most cases, egg substances are clearly labeled 'egg'. This is not good. This is prohibited. Tamala Krsna: It should be mild, prasadam. Prabhupada: Practically no spices. Simply little cumin. And this turmeric. Turmeric you get from India, whole turmeric. This powdered turmeric is very, very bad. Tamala Krsna: Unhealthy. Harikesa: They put sawdust in it. Prabhupada: That's all. Tamala Krsna: It's very unhealthy. Prabhupada: It is very cheating. Any powdered spice is not good. Harikesa: Asafoetida also. Prabhupada: Everything. As soon as it is powder, they will mix with all rubbish things. And it is very easy to cheat you. You are susceptible for being cheated. So they take advantage and cheat you. So best thing is to import spices from India whole and either get it powdered or during time of cooking you make them paste. That is first class. Srila Prabhupada Morning Walk, 07-01-75, Denver AVOIDING ADULTERATED FOODSTUFFS When buying foodstuffs in or from India, be particularly careful that no adulterants have been added. Srila Prabhupada instructed that ground spices should always be avoided, for this reason. Better to buy whole masalas and grind them yourself, so you're sure of the purity. Spare 2 mins to go through it and spread it to as many people as u can.ALL SWEETS ARE NOT VEGETARIAN: Everybody would have seen sweets coated with silver foils on top to make it look attractive. These are called as ‘VARAKH’. It is used in pan too. These kinds of sweets are more popular in marriages and social functions in north India and it is well known in south India also if not that popular. There is a very bitter story associated with the manufacturing of these silver foils which most of us would not know. A cow is killed and its intestine is taken, these foils are prepared by keeping silver pieces in between layers of cow’s intestine and hammering it continuously (in some articles it is given as bull). This is used because the cow’s intestine will not tear or break into pieces even if it beaten continuously to make the silver pieces into a flat paper. I’m telling this briefly because the main intention of this post is to just create awareness. Just type the subject SILVER FOILS ARE NOT VEGETARIAN in Google search and you’ll find pages and pages of articles, statistics regarding this. I will only mention a few: *3-4 years back AIR INDIA banned the distribution of such sweets in their flights because of this reason* 275 tones of silver is being used for this purpose each year in INDIA alone (imagine the number of cows being slaughtered for its intestine). * Sometimes, even sheep skin is used and silver leaves are used in various other industries also. This fact is hidden for the sake of profit, if people in India knew this, it’s usage will vanish overnight (there is an article regarding this in the supplement bhoomika of prajavani paper, date 16-01-2010) *Thousands of animals are killed for this purpose. The most shocking thing is that it is happening in a place where sanatana dharma is largely being followed, which out rightly prohibits the slaughtering of cows and states that cows must be worshiped. The fact that the silver foil in prepared in such a manner is undebatable and completely true. As the price of silver is very high, sometimes aluminum is also used which will result in poisoning. These are few of my suggestions which I think will be accepted by all:• we must make a sankalpa never to eat these sweets coated with silver foils or distribute them.(atleast make sure they are not coated)• Inform at least a few people whom we care about and are close to us, it will hurt them if they have eaten it, but that must not prevent us from telling them. • It will be more appropriate if the people having authority speak about this issue, so that the entire Hindu community will be informed about this.• ‘We don’t eat it, we do not care about others’ attitude, I think is not appropriate. We all know that all food items are adulterated in one form or the other, but this kind of a thing is just not acceptable. If more people come to know about this, it will automatically result in the less usage of these silver foils. As I have already told you this post was written to create an awareness among people and has no bad intention and I request you all to take it in the right spirit. with Courtesy : -- शà¥à¤°à¥€ पेजावर अधोकà¥à¤·à¤œ मठSri Pejawara Adoxaja Mutthttp://vishveshavani.com/ pejawaraupanyasakrishnamadwa
