Guest guest
||shrI hari vAyu gurubhyO namaH || Namaskara, I was generally checking Vyasaraja Matha panchanga prepared by Sri Vyasaraja samiti, done in Surya Siddhantha calculation method. By chance, I found that Dashami ends in India at 3:43 pm IST Wednesday afternoon which is 5:15 am EST Wednesday morning. Then immediately, I checked UM Sanskrit panchanga & UM website to see kannada panchanga http://www.uttaradimath.org/web/index.php?option=com_content & task=category & sectionid=13 & id=57 & Itemid=246, Kannada panchanga, Page 14, Phalguna mAsa, 2009-10, Dashami ending time is the same as Sri Vyasaraja Matha, Wednesday 3: 43 pm IST which is 5:15 am EST. I also checked MYP File section, panchanga, it says the same thing as UM, VM panchanga. Most US calendars/panchangas & www.mypanchang.com and other websites follow Drigganitha calculation where Dashami ends at 3:45 am EST as compared to Surya Siddhantha calendar followed by UM, VM, RM etc… The calendars here follow Drigganitha & they say without dispute that the Dasami ends at 3:45 am as compared to Surya Siddhantha calendars in UM, VM, RM say without dispute the Dasami ending time is at 15:43 which 5:15 am EST Wednesday morning. Now that there is a dispute between Drigganitha & Surya Siddhantha timings panchanga kartas for this Ekadashi, obviously, we have to choose the latter day as per Sri Krishnamrutha Maharnava to avoid Dashami Viddha at any cost. Hence, EST on Thursday, PST on Wednesday has only one Ekadashi upavasa observation & no Shravana Dwadashi upavasa. You may want to check your Sunrise time to find out if you have double ekadashi fasting so that you avoid fasting on Dasami viddha tomorrow. As per Surya Siddhantha calculation, 5:15 am is Dasami ending time on Wednesday. Hence, if the sunrise is after 6:45 am or 7 am EST to be in safe side, then, those places in EST will have double ekadashi starting tomorrow. But if the sunrise in EST is before 6:45 am, then I think, we have only one Ekadashi upavasa which is on Thursday. You may check your sunrise time at www.sunrisesunset.com. You may want to check with scholars, mathas in India/USA to find out if you have double ekadashi fasting so that you avoid fasting on Dasami viddha tomorrow. haraye namaH, Shobha Srinivasan On Tue, Mar 9, 2010 at 4:52 PM, Vasu Murthy <vasu_murthy wrote: Sri Hari vAyu gurubhyo namaH, Dear KrishNa bhaktas, Here are the upcoming Ekadashi details. The information comes from Sri Ram Ramachandran and Sri Yogeendra Bhat. Some of you have asked for explanation of why NY/NJ/CT and DC areas have different Ekadashi observation rules. This is explained below. Smartavyam satataM vishNuH,Regards,Vasu Murthy ========================0=================================0=== According to USA Calendar: Ekadashi is as follows: For NJ, NY and East of of these (places like CT) March 11th. Dwadashi parane on March 12th before 9:05 AM. For rest of USA excluding PST it is Double Ekadashi because of athiriktha Dwadashi. Ekadashi upavasa on March 10th and Match 11th and Dwadshi parane is on March 12th before 9:05 AM EST/ 8:05 CST and 7:05 MST. This includes Washington DC and all areas south of DC in the East coast. For West coast(PST), Ekadashi is on March 10th and Dwadashi parane on March 11th. (NO SRAVANA DWADASHI Upavasa. Does not meet all conditions). However, there is Harivasara till 10:02 AM. So Parane after 10:02 AM on Thursday. India: Double Ekadashi. March 11th and March 12th. Dwadashi parane on March 13th. Double because March 12th is Sravana Dwadashi. Explanation of why NJ/NY and DC have different EkAdashi schemes: nirNaya on is based on the thithi at Sun rise at the respective places. Another rule is that Thiti begins and ends at the same instant across the world. For example March 10th is EKadashi is the thithi across the board. However on March 11th, the ekadashi thithi ends at 6:21 AM and Dwadashi starts at 6:21 AM at all places in the East coast. Now the sunrise at NJ is 6:19 AM and at CT is 6:16 AM and at DC is 6:29 AM. Based on this, the thithi for March 11th at NJ/NY/CT is still Ekadashi because it is Ekadashi thithi at sun rise in NJ/NY/CT. In DC, it is Dwadashi on March 11th because by sun rise time in DC, Dwadashi thithi has started. The thithi on March 12 th is also Dwadashi for DC, NY, NJ, CT etc. NirNaya for NJ/NY/CT:Since March 10 & March 11th are Ekadashi for NJ/NY/CT, according to tradition, they need to observe Ekadashi on the second day ONLY and hence for them it is March 11th and dwadashi on March 12th. According to Sri Yogeendra Bhat, there is no pramaNa for this, but this is based on tradition. NirNaya for Washington DC and areas south and West:For DC March 10th is Ekadashi. March 11th Dwadashi and also March 12th will be Dwadashi. According to the pramANa given in Sri Krishnamrutha Maharnava by srimadAcharya, this situation is called athiriktha Dwadashi. We are supposed to observe Ekadashi on the first Dwadashi also along with Ekadashi on March 10th. So, this becomes double Ekadashi for DC. Regular Dwadashi parane on MArch 12th. It should be of such a quality & texture as would transcend all other forms of love which one may bear towards one's own self, or to his nearest & dearest ones in life, or to his most cherished possessions. It should be founded on an unshakable intellectual & emotional conviction in the Majesty of the Lord- as the embodiment of all spiritual excellences.
