Guest guest
When Ron and I got back from California, we had over 1700 emails (between home and work). so we did a mass delete at home. I spent the week watching the water come in to shore, and then recede back to the ocean in a huge infinity symbol sine wave. The water, when it comes in to shore, is dramatic: white crests, foam, sounds, with many different illusions. Then it retreats back to the ocean, and stays in the droplet form for a while. I drew a parallel between the water and reality. The shore is the illusion (this life) The ocean is the infinite. Other thoughts: Is reaching samadi a mental or biochemical change? Both? Perhaps I need to simply eliminate all comparisons in my life. Stressed/non-stressed, myself/others, hunger/fullness, rushed/inert. If all IS, then nothing CAN be compared to anything else. Guest guest
Dear Carol, Watching the ocean is wonderful, isn't it? I used to especially like to watch it at night when I lived near a beach. The foam was phosphorescent and the roar was so powerful I got lost in it. Once I was there at night and saw a bolide -- a huge meteorite, a fireball, that lit up the whole world almost like daylight. Nowadays I have to make do with fireplaces. > Is reaching samadi a mental or biochemical change? Most scientists seem to think that all mental phenomena are biochemical events. Two famous sayings by neuroscientists are, " minds are what brains do, " and, " brains are computers made out of meat. " There's a new book out on this subject by a neuroscientist who has done a lot of Zen. It's " Zen and the Brain " by James H. Austin.
