It won't have anything to do with meditating like a Zen monk (Zazen and Shikantaza are *much* different and involve much more than alteration of brainwaves), but certainly altering brainwaves is a way of meditation, especially if practiced over a long period of time. However, as a stand-alone spiritual practice, there's nothing much spiritual about it. It has to be combined with other things, but my viewpoint is that theta/delta induction can be combined with other practices and can help greatly (especially in learning to quiet the " monkey mind " and creating what is sometimes called " yogic sleep " ). As for discovering your true nature, etc... I don't think there are any shortcuts. Not only meditation is involved, but contemplation, discrimination, and other things. You certainly can't call yourself a " yogi " by popping on some headphones or a S/L machine (Master Charles or no Master Charles :-).
