Guest guest
Hi James, > Does anyone on the list know if the Pope's recent > apology is posted somewhere on the internet??? The March 12 remarks that made headlines are on the Vatican website here: http://www.vatican.va/jubilee_2000/jubilevents/events_day_pardon_en.htm Look especially at the Universal Prayer. I don't know about the March 15 remarks quoted in the AP report you cite. Guest guest
Dear James, After reading the attached dispatch again I've come to the conclusion that it's almost certainly a fake, probably intended as a parody in the style of the Onion (www.onion.com). The AP would never call the Pope " octegenarian Master of Caremonies, " and if they did, they would spell and capitalize it correctly ( " octogenarian master of ceremonies " ). The whole style of it is too broad. It's parody. Just in case it's real, I checked the index of AP reports as far back as March 12 on the Washington Post site, and it's not here. Another way of looking at it is, surely this report would have set off major news headlines if it had been real. And it didn't. And if it had been an AP mistake that was retracted and removed, that too would have set off news reports.
