Hello

Im new to this, so I cant answer your question; however, I do know who

Nachiketas is because I have worked with and studied that Upanishad for

years - so of course I am curious as to how you decided to take the name?

I have a school of yoga and use Dialogue with Death as a 2nd year study for

the 4 year teacher training program. The center of my interest is

Awareness and I recently sponsored Tony Parsons here from England whose book

As It Is was published here last year.

Cheers

Hi Naciketas,

I've always wondered also why this mail list

is so quiet. Maybe it's because nobody plays

the role of host on this list. Maybe there has

to be a vivid visible personality on the list

to begin with, like a seed crystal, for conversation

to crystalize around. Or maybe it's because the

website's subject matter isn't specific. For every

topic we cover, there's a mail list someplace

else that's devoted more specifically to that

topic. For example, we print articles about

Advaita, but if you want to talk about Advaita,

you're more likely to hang out on a list that's

devoted purely to Advaita.

Regards, and welcome,

Rob

Hi Margit,

Ah, just what I've been looking for, an

expert on the Katha Upanishad!

Here's a question you might be able to

help me with. For a while I've been

keeping my eye open for early mentions of

vichara... self-enquiry... in the old texts.

(Planning eventually to write an article

on the history of self-enquiry.)

One thing that has caught my eye is

the second Valli of the Katha, particularly

verse 12:

" The wise who, by means of meditation

on his Self, recognizes the ancient, who

is difficult to be seen, who has entered

into the dark, who is hidden in the

cave, who dwells in the abyss, as God,

he indeed leaves joy and sorrow far

behind. "

What do you think? Does this remind you

of Ramana Maharshi or am I grasping

at straws?

Cheers,

Rob

Hello Margit,

Yes, you are right. I think I am Naciketas for

the same reason that you are Shiva. :)

Naciketas is my hero since I read the Upanishad.

He has very big opportunity. He can talk to King

of the Dead, can have anything -- anything! But

he takes only wisdom! And remembers to make

happiness with his daddy! What a good boy! :)

And why? Because he looks long range. You might

say that -- he is the big-picture boy! Sees the

big picture! :) A life-time seems short when

you watch what comes next!!! :)

But that is only half the story. That is the

explanation for my first name. The reason my

second name is also Naciketas is -- made me

enter two names and my imagination is exhausted! :)

What is your yoga school? It seems to be a very

serious high-power school with four-year

teacher training!

God-bless and indifference to all wishes but may

they come true anyway! Om shanti shanti shanti!

Peace and peace and peace!

Good day! I am so happy to enter your conversation. My final project for my

master's degree centered on Patanjali's yoga sutras, and I have practiced yoga

(in a simple form, because of physical limitations) for many years. I welcome

you to take a look at the listing for my novel, " White Tiger, Green Dragon, " at

amazon.com (also on bn.com, but amazon has a reader review :-) and hope you will

recommend it to your friends. I look forward to learning from you about the

paths of yoga and advaita vedanta, and the various schools of realization. Peace

and love, Simone

Dear Simone:

Thank you for letting me know of your book. I love books and one of my joys

is that I have a library in which they all spill over together.

If you did your Master's, or part of it, on the Sutras, I wonder if you

studied any of Pandit Usharbudh Arya's work on the Sutras (he is now known

as Swami Veda Bharati)? He and I are good friends, and he stayed with us in

the 90's and did many lectures on the Sutras - and one year on the Katha

Upanishad. He lives mostly in Rishikesh, but does come here fairly often.

He is a lovely being, lively and with a great sense of humor, yet I

understand he is a fine scholar and much respected in India and elsewhere.

I am happy that you enjoy doing yoga for it is the sweetness of the energy

that is so inviting, and I am glad you have accepted the invitaton.

Kindest

Margit

jDear Nachiketas:

I think what was so lovely about Nachiketas is that for all that he knew his

father had acted in anger, he also knew that his father would suffer aas a

result of his reactiveness, and most of all he wanted to take away that

suffering from him first. Howcould Yama not recognize who was before him?
