Hi Leaf,

I remember in one of the first messages you

posted here, you asked about getting enlightened.

I'm wondering what that means to you. What

do you think it would be like to be enlightened?

Regards,

Rob

Hi Leaf,

This reminds me of something that happened when I

visited Varanasi, one of the holiest cities in India,

perhaps the holiest.

Tour boats cruise along the Ganges there,

close to the shore, so tourists can gawk at the

platforms where the funeral pyres burn. So many

bodies get cremated that the water is covered with

floating patches of ash, marigold petals, and bits of

bone.

I took one of those tour boats. The passengers

were from the usual mix of rich industrialized

countries: North America, Europe, Japan,

Taiwan, Australia, etc.

The guide said, "Every Hindu hopes to come to

Varanasi for cremation. This is a very lucky

thing to do because you will not be reborn."

"NOT be reborn?" said one of the tourists? "Did

I hear you right? That doesn't make sense --

do you mean they come here hoping that they

WILL be reborn?"

The guide and several tourists got into a conversation

about this. There was a total lack of comprehension

on both sides.

Which brings me back to my question -- what is it

about enlightenment that makes you want it? What

will you be, once you're enlightened, that's so

desirable?

Regards,

Rob

Hello, That definition is somewhat like mine. I first of all think that you would have to of lived many lifetimes before to get to enlightenment in this life. You have to have experience. I think you can go after it. It can't just happen.I'm not very clear on my definition on it yet. Oh, one more thing about it. I believe that after you are enlightenment, you will either not live anymore lives, or not many more. That is all I can say. Blessed be Leaf

Hi

I know I have this life, how do I know that I had past lives or future

lives. I do not know that, so I lead only this one life and lead it

well. Think about this

In the Bhagavat Gita, Lord Krishna tells " I am everything and everything

is me " . If that be true, isn't He in you, me and our neighbours, as also

the sun, monn, the trees and so on? So, who is being re-born?

I do hope I am contributing positively to our board.

God Bless You

Raghu
