Hi Dan,

lol. The new Dr. Seuss! Would love

to see the illustrations.

Rob

P.S. For folks outside the U.S. bookselling

orbit, Dr. Seuss is a fantastically popular

author of children's books.

Hi Raghu,

Thanks. This little piece of God gets lucky sometimes.

Too bad he doesn't have the sense to stop there, before

sending a dumb message that sends the average quality

down. Oh well, it's not my problem.

How's your mom holding up since the earthquake?

Was sorry to read about Kashmir this morning. How

are people feeling?

No matter how we try to talk

about the world, the words slip off.

You cannot say it's white or brown

or right-side up or upside down.

You cannot say it's one or two

or hot or cold or filled with glue.

You cannot even call it " it "

because you are a bit of it,

And yet you cannot be a part

because you cannot chop it up.

It isn't cold, it isn't hot,

it isn't whole, it isn't chopped,

it isn't up, it isn't down,

it isn't red or white or brown!

The world is strange, you must admit!

We cannot find a word that fits!

But here's the strangest thing of all,

you cannot even say for sure,

if it is or if it's not!

What a world! I kid you not!

Lucky thing that we are free

to shut our mouths and simply be.

I heard once of a Teflon Don,

a guy who now has been long gone.

And now I know a Teflon Rob,

who like Ali can weave and bob.

Words slide off like water from duck,

If you try to say what it is, you're

in for bad luck.

Hi Raghu,

> Are you talking of Particle Physics and Quantum Mechanics?> :-) Raghu

lol, it was supposed to be Vedanta. "Brahman" seemed too

sophisticated for Dr. Seuss so I wrote "world" instead.

The hot and cold stuff was supposed to be like:

"Smaller than the small, greater than the great... Sitting he

moves far; lying he goes everywhere..." (Katha Upanishad

I.2.20-21).

The point being that Brahman cannot be grasped

conceptually.

This reminds me of a faddish expression that parents

sometimes say to kids here -- it must have been in a

movie or something -- when they are at their wits' ends

and about to explode: "Don't even think about it!"

Then there's this, from the Kena Upanishad 2:

"I do not think

that I know it well;

But I know not

that I do not know.

Who of us knows that,

he does know that;

But he knows not,

that he does not know.

"It's envisioned by one who envisions it not;

but one who envisions it knows it not...

"When one awakens to know it,

one envisions it, for then

one gains the immortal state...."

Radhakrishnan comments about the first

paragraph of this quote, "This verse brings out

how we struggle with the difficulties of human

expression, how we confess to ourselves the

insufficiency of mental utterance."

That might be a good slogan to append automatically

to the bottom of every e-mail.

Childishly,

Rob

Dan,

Teflon Dan is gone for good,

he disappeared one day,

Like a wave when waters calm,

he simply went away.

Does anybody miss him or

does Teflon Dan miss us?

And is this question meaningful,

since Danny never was?

Aquatically,

It was in all seriousness. Have you read " Dancing Wu Li Masters " - Gary

Zhukov. There are so many similarities between Vedanta and Particle

Physics. Paradoxes for one and things that are beyong conceptual grasp.

Check it out.
