Guest guest
Question to the List: Am curious if anyone has any thoughts on " Solipsism " . In particular, are there two (or more) kinds (for lack of better wording)? For example, 1) the kind where an " individual " thinks that everything is his/her creation, dream world, etc. And 2), the kind other the psychosomatic apparatus (i.e., human) realizes she/he doesn't exist except as a phenemona as does everything else appearing to, within, and as modifications of itself as Awareness. Also, does anyone here think that the people, creatures, and animals we see and interact with are aware? That they " have " , so to speak, Consciousness? If so, why? I ask out of curiosity and also because there's an ongoing debate on another list. One person, who adamantly asserts that she/he/it is " God " and everyone and everything else is her/his/its " dream figures " who have no consciousness at all. This person quite often resorts to calling others on the list names like " stupid " , " afraid " , " ignorant " , " resistant to believing what she/he/it says " , " Balsekar doesn't know what he's talking about " , etc. Thanks! Guest guest
If you are asking for personal opinion, then I believe that all matter has consciousness of one sort or another and that this consciousness is interconnected at some level. (Einstein proved that matter =energy and energy=matter) If energy is movement and movement is consciousness, then all matter is conscious. Obviously a human is more conscious than say a rock, but an animal would be more conscious than a tree. Generally the debate your friend on the other list is engaged in is a matter of ego, semantics and word definition. If he/she really wants to engage in learning, develop a definition of consciousness that both agree on and go from there. If all he/she wants to do is pontificate, I'd find another place to be :} Gelf Never be pessimistic: It is not going to work anyhow. ---- Realization Tuesday, April 16, 2002 12:11:28 PM Realization Question about Solipsism Question to the List:Am curious if anyone has any thoughts on "Solipsism".
