The contraction that is taken as self, as independent

existence, as having, as separation -- has

never been separate, never been independent, never

been a self.

It has been dependent and

conditioned activity of birth/death all along.

Hi Dan,

What can we do with this information? The

contraction says fine, I believe you, this is

true -- then it continues to " exist " and suffer.

At least, that is what seems to be happening

here.

Hi Rob --

Yes.

Doing anything with it, is just a strategy,

a way to try to manage, to get an outcome --

assuming something could be done, that there could be

control.

We need to differentiate between what one can do

something with, and what one can't do something

with. One can do something with regulating stress,

managing relationships, altering thought patterns,

breathing, and so on.

In all of those management activities, there is

the contraction involved in the doing, in the

management attempt.

Contraction is the doer and the doing, so there won't

be something to be done with it.

It tries to get away from itself, or have itself

and control itself,

and so perpetuates itself -- which is called " human life, "

leading Buddha to observe that " life is suffering. "

There is now only clarity that is the issue.

Clarity in which the interdependent arising of any

moment of thought, sensation, contraction, life

as an individual or group, is evident.

This clarity is beyond contraction, beyond thought,

beyond doing or identity.

It is not fighting with contraction, managing it,

wanting to get somewhere with it, or get out of it.

This clarity does not have a place in the story

called " human life, " because it is the ending

of any focus on/as an individual or group human

life, as such (which is a focus generated

by contraction and attempts to manage or control).

So, my answer is: be this clarity which you are,

prior to any experience of contraction,

prior to making any attempt --

so for you as this, contraction

is not an issue to be for or against, to be mistaken as

one's own or someone else's -- and so

is not one's being, generates no

focus or center.

the term "the contraction" is new to me.

what does it refer to?

is it as simple as was stated: contraction is the doer and the doing?

thanks
