Rob: " It doesn't bother me at all that this group died out. Most

of the talk that goes on in these mail groups seems like bs

to me. "

Alton: Yes one has to conclude that after years on the groups.

Some people like the diagolues probably to ease their lonliness or

abhorance for Self Inquiry.

I have that group because I got tired of spiritual folks getting

pissed off at my views and being banned from so many.

Now no one can ban me and I like that way to study. Also I have fun

posting various weird type photos. Most group are morgue like and if

you have a sense of humor you become personna non grata

non grata,

Some people come with questions that have something

to do with spirituality, but for the most part, I think

people's motives have very little to do with the subject

matter.

I think most people come to these groups in search of friends,

or to impress others, or for the joy of giving advice and feeling

self-important -- exactly the same reasons why people

participate in mail groups about knitting or food or anything

else.

Well I take that back. I used to read a mail group

for parents of children who have a particular serious

disease, and there was no bullshit there at all. People were

simply trading info and encouraging each other in a kind

way. Very different from the atmosphere in the " spiritual "

groups.

The thing that irritates me most about these groups is what

happens when somebody asks a genuine question. Usually

the replies will not answer the question, but instead will

offer advice that the questioner didn't ask for. I find this

disrespectful. The people who answer obviously don't take

time to read the question. Well, that's another thing I've learned

from these groups. Most people don't read very carefully.

> Most group are morgue like and if

> you have a sense of humor you become personna non grata

Well, it's religion. A big part of the religious mentality is

cultivating a somber emotional state. Maybe it's like

blowing up a big balloon full of hot air, and if somebody

comes along and laughs, the balloon bursts.

Cheers buddy,

Rob

Hi Alton

i usually dont responde to the messages from my , just usually casually browse. because there is alot of serious philosophy goin on at the advaitin group, which theyre usually talkin about the same thin but in different ways. and well i dont know what goes on at this one. i really liked your first one about takin a pill or somethin so that we could attain nirvana instantly. very funny. and convincing. but anyways the title of this post caught my eye immediatly. Ramana wrong.? well im still not sure of which Ramana your talking about but i want to address what you said about the aham vritti cuz im not exactly sure what your implying. i understood your explanation of how the aham vritti is the first of its kind (vritti), but not sure what you meant by Ramana was wrong because of this??

warmest regards,

A Ramana snip from Self Inquiry Theory.."Although the concept of 'I'-ness or 'I am'-ness is by usage knownas aham-vritti it is not really a vritti [modification] like othervrittis of the mind. Because unlike the other vrittis which have noessential interrelation, the aham-vritti is equally and essentiallyrelated to each and every vritti of the mind. Without the aham-vrittithere can be no other vritti, but the aham-vritti can subsist by itselfwithout depending on any other vritti of the mind. The aham-vritti is therefore fundamentally different from other vrittis."The other vrittis may be related to each other. For example, you were abused as a child many times with a lot of different experiences. The repressed memories are stored in the subconscious and bubble up into consciousness as thoughts or mental

states. One thought on that subject may therefore be connected to all other thoughts that may arise from those earlier similar experiences. The charge and stress that ensues when one thought bubbles into consciousness is increased by all the other similar experiences. Therefore those thoughts have an essential relationship.Another example. Someone calls you stupid for the first time. You react somewhat but not significantly. Then people continue to call you stupid and each time they do there is more stress experienced. The aggregate of those thoughts compounds the degrees of the reactions. Now when someone calls you stupid you may get so angry that you become violent. You then take up meditation and those thoughts again surface into consciousness and because there are so many similar incidents each thought has so much debilitating interconnected charge. Again we must conclude that those

thoughts have an essential relationship.Namaste,Alton..........INFORMATION ABOUT THIS LIST..........Email addresses: Post message: Realization Un: Realization- Our web address: http://www.realization.orgBy sending a message to this list, you are givingpermission to have it reproduced as a letter onhttp://www.realization.org................................................
