Guest guest
Hi Mac! You write**Regarding spontaneous enlightenment, i think that both workand "grace" may be needed. Certainly, there is no conceptualpath from the mundane to the trancendent. However, i believethat practice can prepare the mind so that the jump can occur. Tony Parsons says : "Grace doesn't float around in the sky and shoot arrows at the worthy. You live in constant grace. Since there isn't any one moment when you aren't in grace, you're constantly being invited to see you are the source." There is nothing we can do to find the way home, because we are already there. There is nothing to find because this is it. We are like fish swimming around looking for the ocean. We are here. This is it. There is nowhere to go. It seems that Awakening is occurring spontaneously regardless of the path or lack of path that people are on. It seems to make no difference whether they are happy or suicidal at the time. And as each Awakening happens, it lessens the density of the dream for everyone else. This is the wont that I have established: expend everything you have in Our way. Then Our bounty will come to you. On this endless road, We command you to travel with your own feeble hands and feet. We know that you cannot traverse this way with feet so feeble. Indeed, in a hundred thousand years you will not arrive at the first way station. However, when you travel this road until your legs are exhausted and you fall down flat, until you have no more strength to move forward, then God's grace will take you in its arms. ** Rumi Yeah. Don't pretend you don't want it. You do, so go for it. And don't pretend you've arrived. You haven't, it's obvious. So, go for it. Jump on it and wrestle it to the ground. I've never been able to figure out why anyone wastes time on them. If I want to visit London, what will do me more good -- a description of London written by somebody who has already been there, or an airplane ticket? Since these books do get written I can't help wondering if the authors are making the same mistake as the readers. Oh wait, I forgot, enlightened people are perfect and can't make mistakes. So the actual problem then is not that you don't have a fur coat, but rather the wanting of the fur coat in the first place. That's what needs be looked into. Guest guest
My goodness, Judi, it does sound like you have some issues... to use contemporary psycho-babble phraseology... Well, first of all, there is no god. Second, to each their own... if that is how you want to say things, well, don't apologize. Perhaps your faith uses that kind of language and resides in your gutter. Rob fell for it. But what you say about fur, are you a member of PETA? Guest guest
Hi Rob: You may hold me responsible for waking up your group and taking away valuable Inquiry time. See, all those who reacted and left the group were a blessing because they probably never contributed anything except condemning vibes. That seems to be the difference between the Buddhist path and many other spiritual directions. I will definitely respond to most of the other offerings here, but my wife gets most of the weekend. Everyone have most terrric two or three days. Guest guest
Hi Derek, > Rob fell for it. Rob focused on the two main points that Judi was making instead of getting distracted because she used naughty words, and Rob thought those points were valuable and important. Here's the first main point: > A brutal investitgative look into your > own greed and see exactly what it is. > Iow, your greed is your problem, not what > somebody else says they have. This is pretty much Buddha's Four Noble Truths compressed into two sentences, isn't it? I think the reason the language is unfamiliar is that Judi is expressing something she has rediscovered for herself. If so, this makes her advice particularly valuable. Judi departs from Buddhism a bit in her emphasis on (1) investigation as the preferred method of practice and (2) the idea that we refuse to look at the reality of ourselves because it's ugly. This idea seems to tickle her and usually gets a rise out of the audience, which is very entertaining. Here's the second: > And your error my friends, is in take Tony's or > anyone's " description " for a " prescription " . I've been interested in this stuff for decades, and I can't recall having heard anybody make this observation before, although the idea has often to me in a vague form in connection with Ramana Maharshi's practice instructions which are frequently misunderstood. When I read these words they struck me immediately as true and important. Many people here would benefit, I think, if they take time to ponder these words and apply them to their own favorite brand of spiritual verbiage.
