The alternative to repeated Birth & Death:

So have I heard: On that occasion, the Blessed One, exclaimed:

There is, Bhikkhus, that which is unborn, unbecome, uncreated &

unconstructed. If, Bhikkhus, there was not this unborn, unbecome,

uncreated & unconstructed state, no escape from what is born,

become, created & constructed could be realized.

But since there is what is unborn, unbecome, uncreated &

unconstructed, the escape from this born, become, created &

constructed state can therefore be realized.

That which is born, that which is become, that which is dependent, that which is conditioned, that which is created, that which is unstable, that which is the bridge between birth and death, this seat of disease, with nutriment and birth as its cause, will always vanish...

Thus it is nothing in which to rejoice. The escape from this, is calm, beyond the sphere of logic, being that

which is stable, that which is unborn, that which is all independent,

sorrow-free, stainless, supreme, this state is the cessation of pain, the stilling of all construction, absolute peace, & ultimate bliss...This matter, too, was stated by the lord, so has there been heard by me.
