What an expression, " make a living. " As if it requires effort and

work simply to live, to be...

It is not impossible, both within " society " and outside of it, to

survive without working. Of course, there's this idea of " social

status " as well as " what's wanted beyond the body's needs. "

What are you willing to sacrifice in order to realize something

beyond the 'everyday suffering' (often not even perceived as

suffering -- as 'institutionalization' within society is complete).

The point is not physical renunciation, the point here is

willingness. Are you willing to die for the truth?

It seems to me there's some confusion here as to what Nisargadatta

was pointing to when he stated 'earnestness is the only

requirement'. Perhaps much confusion.

Namaste,

Tim

To this instance of mind, work is play. I see no need to bemoan

engagement in work. I gather that Nisargadatta often advised

seekers who came to him to return to their " ordinary lives " of

family, work etc. rather than to pursue some image of " seeking. "

Indeed, I believe that this is what he himself did, continuing to

operate his shop throughout his life.

Is one to be condemned for enjoying work--for not perceiving

it as " suffering " ?

There does indeed appear to be considerable confusion as to

what Nisargadatta is pointing to when he refers to " earnestness. "

He did recommend spending 'all the time you can spare' resting as

simple Beingness....
