Guest guest
From Consciousness and the Absolute. Maharaj: This sickness gave the confirmation that there is no personality, no individual. Sickness to whom? Sickness is part of the functioning of the entire manifest, dynamic Consciousness. It is the play of consciousness. My True State is Prior to this consciousness. That State does not depend on the consciousness. There is a couplet we sing at bhajans, to I amness, the life principle, the manifest principle. It is like this cigarette lighter. The gas as such has no light. It's manifestation is the flame. It is full of light, life, energy. Even in the atom, the sub-atom, that energy is there. The functioning of consciousness takes place spontaneously. One doesn't know what will happen. For instance: I say something and M will translate it one way, B will translae it another, in whichever way they have understood it. This is the way the process will go on. This, I amness, is like a fly wheel, Lord Krishna said, rotating all beings. That energy which moves all things in the waking state, is latent in deep sleep. How long is one unaware of awareness? One doesn't know, but suddenly consciousness arises. Does anyone think along these lines? Is it not amazing that consciousness, which might remain latent for any length of time, suddenly arises spontaneously? Questioner: Is Universal Consciousness ever aware of itself as Universal Consciousness, or does it become aware only when there is a form? Maharaj: Awareness is not aware of its awareness. If you get too much involved in what I am saying, you will throw away the books you are writing, everything. Questioner: I will finish the book. Then I am finished. Maharaj: You have promised me that you will complete the books. Universal Consciousness will not write the books. How will you write the books? Questioner: It will happen spontaneously. .. Guest guest
Dear El, Thanks for sharing these dialogues. Quite insightful stuff ;-) Here's some repartee, just for fun: From Consciousness and the Absolute. Maharaj: <snip> One doesn't know, but suddenly consciousness arises. From what, where, validated how? For whom? Does anyone think along these lines? Anyone thinking along these lines could only be an artifact of the belief that consciousness arose. Where could such belief arise? Whom could hold it? Is it not amazing that consciousness, which might remain latent for any length of time, suddenly arises spontaneously? Arises from what, where? What is even more amazing is this: Although consciousness tends to be assumed, it never can have arisen, and thus cannot be said to not have arisen. And what does this mean for " all this " -- supposedly arising in consciousness? " All this " cannot have arisen nor can it be said not to arise. Ramana Maharshi: " There is neither creation nor destruction " Questioner: Is Universal Consciousness ever aware of itself as Universal Consciousness, or does it become aware only when there is a form? Maharaj: Awareness is not aware of its awareness. Yes! The assumption that there can be awareness of which an awareness can be aware is a groundless assumption with no support anywhere. If you get too much involved in what I am saying, you will throw away the books you are writing, everything. Indeed! The instant something appears to be known, is a moment of unsurpassed illusion. To say that there is something unknown or unknowable is equally illusory. The real which " makes " this illusion, cannot be known nor unknown, neither awareness nor something else other than awareness. <snip> How will you write the books? Questioner: It will happen spontaneously. To say it will happen spontaneously is to kill all spontaneity. Even to say, " This is happening spontaneously " is to kill spontaneity. Who is here who can kill spontaneity? No one. Who can make a statement about spontaneity? No one. Love, Dan
