Not the ultimate! As I understand it anyway. Those who follow Shankara's philosophical system don't make the distinction. That is a 'radical' outlook, and says that there is only Brahman, and the 'overlay' of Maya... and nothing else. According to this, the manifest is *entirely* illusory, and there is only Brahman, period (the mind's delusion)... so no need for distinctions such as 'Saguna' or 'Nirguna'. It's a hardcore Jnana approach, and 'takes no prisoners' philosophically. The world is unreal, there is only Brahman, Atman (the individual 'soul') is Brahman, and that's the end of it, according to Shankaracharya's philosophy. There is some merit to it (imo) if this is an attractive approach to reality (for some it is), as it doesn't bother with the various 'levels' and splits (Nirguna, Saguna and such) that Neovedanta and the modern sages offer.
